The LA Police Gear Urban Recon Pants are made from 100% Cotton Duck Canvas (9.5 oz weight) fabric. This fabric has tons of uses, but as of yet has not been seen in a popular pair of tactical pants. After a thorough development process and testing phase, LAPG is proud to bring these pants to the market. During our testing, we found this fabric to be exceedingly comfortable and yet still cool and extremely tough. We are confident that if you give this pant a try, you will become a Duck Canvas fabric fan too.

Aside from the fabric, this pant features an elastic waistband, 7 pockets in total (including one slip pocket and two cargo pockets), a gusseted crotch, articulating knees, a brass tac-stud closure, and a brass locking YKK zipper. In short, we packed the pants with all the features you've come to expect from LA Police Gear pants.

Fit:
These pants have a similar fit to our LA Police Gear Urban Ops pant, which is to say that they are not quite as baggy as traditional tactical pants. These definitely aren't a skinny jean, but aren't typical "parachute" tactical pants either. Let's call it a happy medium.

7 Pocket Configuration:

  • (2) Front Pockets - built with a notch to allow for clipping a knife or tool
  • (1) Front Slip Pocket - a great option for phones, mags, EDC items, etc. Positioned on left side.
  • (2) Hook & loop cargo pockets
  • (2) Rear Patch Pockets - open top for quick access to wallet or other items

Features:

  • Made from 100% cotton Duck Canvas (9.5 oz)
  • Fade-Resistant Fabric
  • Elastic Waistband
  • Hook & Loop Cargo Pockets with Bellows
  • Single Front Slip Pocket (on left front side)

color fades away

"on the background is the SOCT-PANT_021 $16. 99 and foreground is the duck canvas $19. 99 . been wearing 6 of these since 2022 and they did last long enough but being more expensive the color faded away. its more of a white washed black comfortable : yes durable : yes water resistant : yes can handle jumps and other cray movements : yes fade resistant : no"

Warm tough wearing.

"I like these so much that I cut them into knee length for summer work pants."

Buck (5/5)

Cool weather pants only.

"Durable material, a little too thick for hot weather."

Brian (4/5)

I'm super sad that these

"I'm super sad that these were on closeout. These are heavier canvas than a lot of deluths or carhartts and provide stellar wear resistance on the job site. I even crashed a motorcycle wearing a pair and still wear them to this day."

Joseph S. (5/5)

Great pants

"These are my favorite pants. I have worn them for years. It is also the only item I have ever purchased from your website. Please undiscontinue them post haste."

Clayton B. (5/5)

Moving on if these are discontinued

"The biggest mistake LAPG has made is discontinuing these pants. Reconsider of publicize where we can find a similar product. This product was the major reason I shopped at LAPG no pants no customer."

Robert (5/5)

Fight for duck!

"I don't know why they are getting closed out, these things are the best, super wear resistant (took 7 years to finally go through a pair and only because i wore them on the leg press) Super tough for work and a good fit for casual wear, a true "do it all" pant. I wish i could get more!"

Joseph (5/5)

"Would like to know when you will get more of these pants."

TR (5/5)

"Great basic tactical pants. Fit is good. Arrived quickly and great price. Would definitely buy more in the future."

Matthew L. (4/5)

Well made

"Well made pants but heavier material. I wouldn’t recommend these for summer but they’re perfect for cooler temperatures."

Q&A

Will these ever be available again?
Possibly
Is there a place in the knee for knee pads to be inserted?
Hello, This does not have pockets for knee pads. Currently, our only pants that do are the Atlas pants.
When will these be available again?
I see we have these in stock now. If your size is showing backorder, these do not have an ETA
Are there any thoughts about making a shorts version of these? Probably would sell better than the Elite shorts which look like one massive pocket...J/K.
This could be a possibility. I'll have this sent to our higher ups to see if this is possible in the future
I own several pairs of these. I see them tagged (Closeout). Are these being discontinued?
Yes this version is getting discontinued but we should be getting a new version to replace them. I hope this helps!
I wear a 34 waist in the tactical operator shorts; how would these fit in comparison? Does the elastic waist stretch beyond 34 inches to compensate for IWB, and if so how many inches? I know the tactical operator shorts are 34 inches fully stretched. Do the pants run true to size? Thanks in advance.
The pants do run true to size however they are measured with the elastic fully expanded so a size 34 would not be able to be expanded past that size.
I wear a 36w 36l in 5.11 tactical taclite pro - will the 36w 36l of these pants fit the same?
The waistband of 5.11 pants extends about 2" larger than the elastic of our pants. On our pants, a 36" waist will stretch to 38" whereas 5.11 36" pants will stretch up to about 40".
I WILL BE WEARING THESE PANTS AS A PART OF MY UNIFORM CAN YOU RECOMMEND A SIMILAR MATCHING SHIRT THANKS.
It would depend on the color pants you are wearing. Most of the LAPG shirts will be similar in color. As far as other brands, navy, black, khaki and some of the greens are going to be similar in shirt colors compared to the pants.
Does sizing run about the same as the Operator pants? Any differences when ordering these?
The sizing should be pretty close to the Operator pants. It's based off of our urban ops pants, so if you've purchased those, than you should be good to go with that same sizing.
I know you guys are trying to make these in colors that don't "scream cop" but do you have any plans in offering then in navy blue? I would like to try these out as uniform pants.
Additional colors and sizes are probably a year out. We used core colors that we know sell well to get a feel for how well they will do before we look into ordering additional sizes and colors. If you email newbrands@lapolicegear.com that may help expedite getting those made, but as of now it will probably be a year.
Will you be stocking these in larger sizes in the future?
That all depends on how well the initial core sizes do and how much demand we receive for larger sizes. If you email newbrands@lapolicegear.com requesting larger sizes to be added, that may help expedite us getting those in. As of now for any larger sizes or different colors, they'll be up to a year out.
How do these pants fit at the cuffs ? I wear boot cut jeans and would like to find a pair of tactical pants with a similar fit.
We will see what our customers' feedback is regarding your question.
Would these colors be consistent with other LAPG pants? E.g. If I have Rendition pants in Slate Brown, would it be the exact same Slate Brown? Also could you highlight the difference between Sierra and Slate Brown?
The Slate brown should be pretty close if not exactly to what the slate brown is for these pants. Due to the different material being used, the colors will be different between the different pants we offer, but the Rendition material is very close to the Recon Material, so those should be consistent. As for the Sierra, it's not the same as the our traditional Sierra color as with our other rip stop pants such as the Operators. It's much darker, and it's not really much different than the slate. It's a little darker than slate with a slight hue of green...it's like a brownish green. Not as powerful of a green as our ripstop versions, but that is probably due to the dyes varying on different fabrics.
Any chance the will be available in navy blue?
Not any time soon, it will probably be a year before we start adding additional colors for this style. We still need a feel of how well they'll do first.
Are the LAPG urban recon waist sizing the same as the LAPG operator shorts? It seems I am a 33. The 32 same a bit small and couldn't get my IWB holster. The 34 was a progress but then it was sagging on the back side. I am also an armed flyer (LE). I am looking for pants that don't give away my purpose of being on the flight. Would the Urban recons work? Any recommendations and again is the waist size the same as the shorts? Thank you.
The sizing should be about the same with our Operators, though I don't believe these have as much elastic in the waistband as the operators do. If you were to order a size 32" than the elastic should allow it to fully extend to 34", I'm leaning toward you probably ordering a size 34". I think that would be much more comfortable, but I'm not sure if that's going to cause the same sag as the Operators did at that size. These are sized slimmer than the Operators, so i would expect that to be a non issue with these.
I would need a size 42 - 36. Will this size be available.
As of now they are just keeping with the core sizes before adding additional sizes. If you email newbrands@lapolicegear.com requesting that size, that may expedite us to having them available in that size, but it will probably be up to a year before they are added.
Why not make these available in sizes larger than 44?
When we first release a product, we try to stick to core sizes that we know will sell before we start to add additional sizes. Sizes that are larger than a 44" just don't sell as well which is why they were not included with this first batch. If we receive enough demand for it though, it will definitely be something that we will begin to implement additional sizes for. It may be a year before that happens.
Any chance of making these in navy blue like you have in the lapg bdu pants?
It will probably be a year before we add additional sizes and colors for this new pant style. Please email newbrands@lapolicegear.com and request these to have the Navy added. That might expedite the process a bit of additional colors.
Will these pants be made in navy blue sometime in the future?
That is a possibility, but additional sizes and colors would probably be about a year out before they are available to order. Email newbrands@lapolicegear.com to request that color for these pants and that may expedite getting them added sooner.
Are these pants considered full-rise or mid-rise? Specifically, on the 44" waist.
I had a 34" waist pulled to check the rise, and that comes to 11" Mid Rise (regular rise) normally ranges from 9-11", so this is falls into that category albeit the longer end of a mid rise, but not long enough really to consider it a High Rise.
How tight do these pants fit in the legs? Are people with meaty legs going to be able to move around?
These are sized like the Urban Ops, and I haven't heard of any issues with the tightness of these. I'll check with other customers who have purchased these pants to see if they have any feedback for you regarding that.
How about the laundry? Wash and wear of do they need to be ironed?
Washing instructions are as follows - Machine Wash Cold With Like Colors, DO NOT BLEACH, Tumble Dry Low, warm iron if needed.
Please make these in a cargo pocket-less design
We will take that in consideration, thank you for your suggestion. We tried that with our other operator pants and they didn't do so well, but if we receive enough demand, it will be something we will look into.
Do these pants have pass-through cargo pocket flaps like most of your other pants?
Good afternoon Zeb, I was able to pull one of these from the warehouse and take a look. These are standard cargo pockets, no pass through flaps. I hope this helps!
Why does the price say 17.99 and when I select a color and size it says 25.99??????????
I'm sorry I'm not sure where you're seeing that price but if you contact customer service at 661-294-9499 or email them at cs@lapolicegear.com and they can take a look at that with you.
Hi, if my jean size 32-30 should i buy this pant in 32-30 or 34-30?
32x30 should be fine to order, the elastic will extend them to a 34 if needed, however I always recommend to measure first. I don't trust other companies and their pant measurements, and if it's an old pair of jeans you are going by, it's almost guaranteed to be off.
How much do these pants shrink when washed?
From what I understand there shouldn't shouldn't be much shrinkage at all with these, we are still getting a feel for them, but the owner washed his multiple times and did not have much if any shrinkage to report.
On the size issue. Given the elastic wast, what is the size range of say a 32''? 31" to 33", 30" to 32" ?
I had that size pulled just to verify that the sizing runs true. The 32" when relaxed comes to 32", when fully extended you can stretch it to 34" Hope that helps!
Does sizing run true? Also, is it a solid waistband? (meaning any elastic at all) I'm a larger fellow working on getting smaller, but would like to also have room for my CCW.
Yes, these are true to size and the elastic waistband should allow for the pants to stretch one size larger than what you order.
Rip stop is too light for my climate. Looking for something closer to jean material. How does the duck compare?
These are much better for colder climates than the ripstop material and it's pretty close to jean material, but i don't think it's quite as thick. I believe you would still want to wear a layer underneath for colder climates, but i'll check with other customers who have purchased these to see if they have any additional feedback for you.
