Description
PLEASE NOTE: Out of stock sizes are on extended backorder with no ETA. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The LA Police Gear Urban Recon Pants are made from 100% Cotton Duck Canvas (9.5 oz weight) fabric. This fabric has tons of uses, but as of yet has not been seen in a popular pair of tactical pants. After a thorough development process and testing phase, LAPG is proud to bring these pants to the market. During our testing, we found this fabric to be exceedingly comfortable and yet still cool and extremely tough. We are confident that if you give this pant a try, you will become a Duck Canvas fabric fan too.

Aside from the fabric, this pant features an elastic waistband, 7 pockets in total (including one slip pocket and two cargo pockets), a gusseted crotch, articulating knees, a brass tac-stud closure, and a brass locking YKK zipper. In short, we packed the pants with all the features you've come to expect from LA Police Gear pants.

Satisfaction Guarantee & Free Returns: If you aren't happy with these pants when you try them on, we will pay for you to send them back to us and we will give you a full refund on the pant! Pants must be unwashed with the original packaging and tags. Please email us at CS@LAPoliceGear.com and we will send you a return label.

Fit:
These pants have a similar fit to our LA Police Gear Urban Ops pant, which is to say that they are not quite as baggy as traditional tactical pants. These definitely aren't a skinny jean, but aren't typical "parachute" tactical pants either. Let's call it a happy medium.

    Owner's review
This is Sean writing this review - I own LAPG. I decided to do the untraditional thing of writing a review for my own product because I like these pants so much. When I first heard the name of this fabric I immediately thought they would be uncomfortable. Boy was I wrong. This 100% cotton duck canvas is GREAT! It is more comfortable to me than poly-cotton rip-stop pants we have all been wearing for years now. I find it regulates body temperature very well. I have worn these pants in temperature ranging from 40 to 100 degrees. They feel good in all environments. They also do a lot better than poly-cottons in protecting my legs from sparks, fire, abrasions or other things that either burn holes in or rip my "rip-stop" pants. In short I LOVE THESE PANTS and they are my goto pants if they are in my closet. The fit is similar to the LAPG Urban Ops or VertX style pants. They are not too baggy and I don't have to wear a belt with them to keep them up. These pants don't look so cop-ish (shoot me first tuxedos) like other big name brands. Why did we call them Urban Recons? Shit, I don't know. Sounded good at the time. Bottom line is these are JUST GREAT PANTS for just about any activity. I can hunt, weld, hike, shoot, run a PT course, or go to dinner in these pants. I seriously have done all these things in these pants and they have felt great, looked great, and performed great. I hope you give them a try and like them as much as I do! Sean - President - LA Police Gear, Inc

    Great Pants
I wanted to wear these pants and launder them before doing a review as those who do a review upon receiving the item are not being helpful. First off, the fabric is semi-duck cloth. I say "semi" because it does move and won't wrinkle after washing like CarHart duck cloth. They look professional. The belt loops were positioned by a shooter and not a fashion maven so "check". The extra fabric on the bottom of the cuff makes the pants lay very nice on the boot. Again, professional looking. The pants call for cold water and that is what I did. They were dirty as I put them through a normal 3 days of a duty day. If you get them dirty from a kneeling position they brush off nicely. They came out of the washer with the same color it went in at. I used the lower dryer setting and did some minor ironing to give me inspection-quality pants again. There are plenty of pockets and this is where my four star vs. five star comes in. The rear wallet packet is too short. I doesn't have a silly velcro tab, which I hate, but if it were just a half inch deeper the pants would be perfect IMO. The front pockets are pretty stiff so if you a laying down looking under a car your change falls out (but I discovered what I was looking for so it was a wash!)
ProsProfessional looking. Keeps its color (so far). The elastic amount and placement is perfect for active wear. Belt loops are well located. Fabric lay nicely. Articulated knee area keeps the pants from looking worn after a few days. The reinforced knife area of the pocket is well placed and durable.
ConsRear wallet pocket is too short. Front pants pockets (the fabric that is inside the pocket) are too rigid.

    Low key tac pants
Years ago, I bought a couple pair of LAPG Operator Tactical Pants (TOP1003) and other than not being thrilled with wearing poly/cotton blends, they've been great. The old ones are still serviceable, but are showing some wear, and when I saw these in 100% cotton I had to try them. Compared to the TOP1003 pants, these don't even have cargo pockets :( The cargo pockets are too small to pocket carry a G42 in a pocket holster...the flap won't fully close, and even if it did, the pocket bulges out making it obvious something's been crammed in there. Not so in the TOP1003 where the G42 in a pocket holster disappears in the cargo cavern. OTOH, these are extremely comfortable and low key enough, they can practically pass as slacks for office casual wear. I did order one waist size larger than usual as suggested, which results in a loose enough fit that IWB carry isn't a problem.
Pros100% cotton, comfortable, not overly tacticool.
ConsCargo pocket-carry is a no go.

    Good fit
They fit well and for a few dollars more are a heavier material than the Shrike tactical pants and are warmer in cold weather. Do buy the legs a couple inches longer than you would as they shrunk a bit. Pockets are smaller than other tactical pants I have and do not accommodate the possibility of carrying an AR mag and the phone pocket has my Samsung Galaxy S8 sticking out of it.
    ProsGood fit. Heavier material.
    ConsShrink in legs. Smaller pockets.

    Good value for the buck.
I first ordered a couple of pair of the URP a couple of years ago. Have worn them almost exclusively every day since. One pair (the one I wear more often than the other) finally started showing some fraying around the leg bottoms. There wasn't even another pant considered for replacement and I went right back to the well and bought 2 more pair. Glad i did. Don't believe you can go wrong with this item, (And I'd endorse these pants even without a discount on a future purchase -- a discount which I probably won't use anyway.)

    Caution they shrink
I had read the reviews and planned my purchase accordingly, and I don't regret it. I ordered a size above my own and just washed them once and they fit perfectly. I'm usually not a fan of cotton, but they are very comfortable and I will buy several more pairs. I plan to put the couple pairs I have through a gauntlet and write another review, but wanted to thank the few that took the time to review the pants to help others on their purchase. I'm in Southern California so the cotton isn't such a bad thing. Thankyou all and overall great pair of pants.
ProsComfortable, non restrictive, great articulation, decent heat control, front pocket stitching very durable and not bulky, VERY good price.
Cons(Inconvenience only) they shrink quite a bit.

Comfortable Pants with lots of pockets for a great price
I find these pants to be very comfortable, especially after a washing or two. The seams are solid and the pockets are plentiful. I do find that my knife will slide out of the front pockets. They are a great bargain and I have several pairs.

They are hemmed at the bottom and do not have the drawstrings. I like to allow room in the waste as I CCDW IWB so I like a little more room. They also have a little elastics. My waste is a 36 so I normally order a 38 due to carrying IWB. This is my 3rd time ordering these type pants since 2010. They are great, wear well and have plenty of pockets for your stuff. At first I ordered 1 pair just to ensure the fit and after that I ordered several others. My opinion is you will like them but that is always up to each individual.

Hemmed, as to size, they seem to run long and as for the waist, if it says 34 that is with the elastic sides fully extended so if you wear a 34 order a 36 if you want them a little loose or you want to wear an in the waistband holster.

I find the fit to be true to size, IF you are a true 32. The elastic waist doesn't have nearly as much 'give' as some of the other styles and the cut is little slimmer, which I like as it gives a more 'street normal' appearance. If you IWB carry, then go up a size.

Let's get to the shrinkage issue as many have noted previously... 1. Does it shrink MUCH? Inseam is 31" and it appears that many people are basically saying the pants shrink but how much? Would believe 32" inseam should do well as 30" inseam, after it shrunk, is still marginally acceptable. 2. Does it shrink on the waist? Appears that most people say that waist is generally True to Fit but... the cut and fabric for some is INCONSISTENT as there ARE QUALITY CONTROL ISSUES!! 3. Are side cargo pockets 'deep' enough to store things like a thick wallet or thick magazine clips? - Is it also long/wide enough to accommodate things stuff in the pockets? Thanks!

I have several pairs of these and I have not noticed any shrinking at all. I have noticed that they seem to run a bit small, but long in the leg. Other then that, if you wash in cold water and dry at low heat. You should be fine with them not shrinking.

I'm as confused as you are. I see reviews saying the length doesn't shrink - but I assure you that mine - after washing warm and drying delicate - shrank in length enough to be considered highwaters and would order longer next time. I always wear 36/32, but in these would order 36/34 next time.

Do these pants shrink since they are 100% cotton? I am trying to find something to replace Levi 501's where a 32x34 fits perfectly. So my actual waist size is 32 and my actual length is likely 32-33.
    2 Answers
These have minimal shrinkage as they are made from Duck canvas which is not like normal cotton.

Being on the shorter side (5'7"), I have difficulty finding pants that fit, especially through the thigh. I have a pair of LA police gear basic covert pants, model BC1015 LRS, which seem to fit the best without me looking like I am swimming in them. However, these pants unfortunately have been discontinued. Can someone please recommend a pair of pants that are cut for shorter and slimmer men? I am 5 foot seven, weigh 150 pounds, and have a 32" waist. Thank you.

Here are a couple alternatives that are bit slimmer then our normal Operator pants. http://www.lapolicegear.com/lapg-dtp1020-rendition-pant.html http://www.lapolicegear.com/lapg-tlp1019-lightweight.html

If I wear a 31 waist in Levis but those same Levis actually measure 32" around would the sizing on these pants be your literal waist measurement around just under the belly button? I ask because jeans are not ever your actual waist size because they are lower rise and they give you what the assume your real waist measurement would be if they were around your actual waist and not on your hips. Do thwse run small or big? Thanks

I am curious about the fit on these. I have purchase 3 pairs of the Urban ops pants in 36x30, which is my usual size. They are a bit snug at the waist, not terribly so, but enough that I can't carry concealed IWB like I normally do. Do these run about the same, if so I would buy them in the next waist size up. Thanks!

Are these pants water resistant in any way?
    2 Answers
They are not completely water resistant. They will bead off rain and the fabric does a reasonable job of not soaking up the water completely. If you give it enough time they can be soaked in a rainstorm or wind driven rain.

Size question. I wear a 34. So would I order 36 to have room for IWB? Or a 38 so it can shrink to a 36 for a IWB and it would be almost a 34 without the IWB carry? I dislike not trying stuff on and going be reviews it sounds like they shrink and the waist size is with elastic fully extended.
    1 Answers
you would have to order at least one size larger for IWB carry as the waist band is measured with the elastic fully expanded.

I wear a 34 waist in the tactical operator shorts; how would these fit in comparison? Does the elastic waist stretch beyond 34 inches to compensate for IWB, and if so how many inches? I know the tactical operator shorts are 34 inches fully stretched. Do the pants run true to size? Thanks in advance.
    1 Answers
The pants do run true to size however they are measured with the elastic fully expanded so a size 34 would not be able to be expanded past that size.

I ordered several pair of the tactical pants for Christmas gifts. I ordered 32, 34, and 38 waist for my boys. All of the pants fit perfect except for the Black. All three sizes in the black ran too small. Have you had this complaint from other customers? I was going to return the 38 x 36 for maybe a 40 waist, but I see that they do not come in a 36 length. Do you even carry the black in a 40 x 36?
    1 Answers
I know that the manufacturer has about an inch or so of error room they are able to make with these, so it could be that you received a pair that fell in the lower end of that. We don't carry a 40x36 for these pants because we have found that it's a size that is a lot harder for us to move. I asked if that is something we could possibly add for the future, but the answer I received is leaning more towards no. If you would like to exchange the size you received that is off a bit, please contact CS@lapolicegear.com and we should be able to get you taken care of, maybe exchange it for a different color.

    3 Answers
These are much better for colder climates than the ripstop material and it's pretty close to jean material, but i don't think it's quite as thick. I believe you would still want to wear a layer underneath for colder climates, but i'll check with other customers who have purchased these to see if they have any additional feedback for you.

It's fairly close; depends on the jeans you're used to. In my case the material is a little thinner than the denim weight I used to wear. It is thicker than the rip-stop material though.

I live in New England and you would definitely need something thin underneath in cold climates. Similar to the less dense fleece materials that let wind through.

I just received my order of 34x32. I'm 5'8" about 185-190 lbs, in shape. The waist in the pants was bigger than I thought. When I buttoned them they didn't have to stretch one bit. Length was almost to the ball of my foot. I have some of the operator pants as well and these pants seem to fit bigger however I dont know if they will shrink at all. Gave them to my brother who is 5'10" 190 lbs. Fit him perfectly. Hope that helps.
