New from LA Police Gear, the Urban Ops Tactical Pants are the byproduct of years of producing high quality tactical pants that don't break the bank. The Urban Ops Pants offer an improved fit and ultra-lightweight material, while still being tough, durable, and most of all useful. The pocket configuration has been optimized to let you access the gear you need quickly, and the brass locking YKK zipper and metal tac-stud have been put through the ringer to make sure they won't fail you.

The Urban Ops Pants are constructed from a lightweight yet resilient 65% polyester and 35% cotton rip-stop fabric, and include an elastic waistband so you are as comfortable as possible all day. The articulating knees and Gusseted crotch make these pants a great choice for those always on the move.

These pants are formally referred to as the Shrike Pants, but due to the name sounding similar to another pant, we decided to change the name. Sorry for any confusion!

Features:

  • 65% Polyester/35% Cotton rip-stop fabric
  • Fabric Weight: 7.5 oz.
  • Cargo Pockets w/LAPG pass through
  • Single front slip-pocket
  • Slip Back Pockets
  • Front pockets optimized for knife or flashlight clip
  • Articulating Knee
  • Elastic Waistband
  • YKK Locking Brass Zipper
  • Brass Tac-Stud closure - extremely reliable and tough
  • 6 belt loops - accommodates most belts up to 2 inches (belt not included)
  • Gusseted Crotch
  • Slanted Cargo Pocket Flaps For Seated Access
  • 22 individual bartacks to increase strength

  • Please Note: While the fit may vary from person to person, these pants are measured to the waist size, and the elastic waistband provides a 1" stretch. If you will be tucking in your shirt or using an Inside the Waistband holster we recommend going up 1 to 2 sizes to compensate for the needed space.

    I do not understand...
why, or how, these pants are less than 20 dollars. I work retail as a manager and am constantly on the lookout for some nice, functional pants that fall within dress code and yet can still get some use outside of work. Long gone are the days of the useless "do I have to, mom?" dress slacks. I even like these more than my previous pair of 5.11 tacticals. Much more, actually. These pants look and feel amazing. You can tell a lot of thought and research went into all of the subtle details of this design. I actually get more excited about going to work just because I get to wear these pants. Never have my subordinates feared me more. ...and all of this for under $20? What more do you want?
Pros- Perfect fit! Not too low in the crotch. Very comfortable, not too baggy, not too tight - just right. (I wear a 30/32) - Very functional pocket array while sustaining a professional look and feel. (Depending on how strict your dress code is on "cargos") - Front pocket slant works great for knife carry. - Lightweight material with the peace of mind that is ripstop. (Haven't worn long enough to really put to the test, but great to know) - Just read the description for yourself. It's all true.
    Cons- Suspicious price point

Comfortable. If you can find a pair that fits correctly
Saw a post on FB about tactical pants and a couple of people recommended these. Awesome pricepoint so I ordered 3 pair all in my size. (34x36) First pair fit right and I thought I was on to something. Second pair was tight and the button dug into my stomach so bad it left a mark for a day after I was able to take them off. Same exact size. Third pair fit right.? Looked up some more reviews that said close to the same thing, sizing is funky. OK, now I knew, so I ordered 3 more pair at 36x36. Wearing the first pair of those today and it seems they added an extra 2 inches to the inseam rather than the waist. They fit exactly like the 34x36 ones that I had ordered before around the waist but should have been a bit loose and are not and the bottoms are dragging on the ground. For the price I can't be too mad but kind of wondering if they just have a bunch of size stickers that a drunk guy applies to the pants randomly??

    Great pants
I use these as work pants in the concrete industry in las vegas. They are ideal as they are durable yet light weight and breathable in the heat. Their water repellent quality is a very nice touch for me. The Sierra color is very similar to concrete so splashes from my word day dont stand out at all.
ProsWell made. Very comfortable. Light weight. Water repellent. The price

No better pant at this price
Strong durable fabric, wears well and maintains color through many washings. Fit and ability to move are important and these pants deliver. I think they might benefit from an additional belt loop, but these still have more than many pants. I wear these on most camping and hiking outings. I'm out at least once every month. Key features I value: gusseted crotch, articulated knee, reinforced pocket for knife or tool clip, strong Velcro on cargo pockets.
ConsI would like an additional belt loop or two.

    Love these pants!
Super comfortable cargo pants. Amazing price and true to fit. Even after several Washings they did not shrink at all! Have purchased 5-11 and first tactical cargo pants at three times the price and I like these better.

    Best Tactical Pants Around
Highly recommend, these pants are amazing, all the more so because of the price! I have had two pair for over a year now, wearing them constantly for work (I'm a fire investigator, they go through a lot on a daily basis). Just ordered a couple more. They have held up better than 511's, which I wore for years back in the day. They're so comfortable I have taken to wearing them casually as well (and the Elite Operator shorts too)! My wife is getting sick of them... Added Plus: Baby Glock with my in-the-pants holster fits in the cell phone/knife pocket!
    ProsPrice Comfort Fit Durability
ConsWife won't let me wear them to weddings, graduations, etc.

    Urban Ops tac pants
I have about 12 pair of these, most recently in Boulder color. They are true to size, lightweight and comfortable. I'm 6'5" tall, 205 lbs, and 36x36 fits me fine in summer, but I have some 38x36 pants for winter wear ( over heavier shirts, more layers in a Michigan winter ) .

How much does the elastic in the waist expand? Also, is a 32 inch waist before the elastic expands or is it 32 with the elastic in the waist fully expanded?

It's actually 32w fully expanded. Believe me I ordered 3 of these. I'm 5'8" and 155lbs to give you an idea. I'm a size 32w for comfort with any other pants, and can wear a 30 or 31.. just not as comfortably. These are a size 30w with 32w tags. I suggest you order a size up, I wish I had. Customer service response is wrong.

How are these in these in the thighs? I’m a bigger guy and I’ve tried dickies but they where to tight in the thigh area and I had difficult lifting my leg to climb a ladder.
    2 Answers
Well Shipmate, let’s look at precision, my thighs are approximately 22 inches in circumference, for me, they are a bit ass-baggy with at least two inches of excess thigh material. I climbed a 20 foot ladder and walked my roof to install security camera lines with absolutely no binding at the thigh or crotch area. Measure you thigh circumference, if less than 24 inches, you should be fine for comfort and maneuvering. Regards, Paul USN (RET) NSSAR ( Member)

I’m 6’5” 260 lbs. bought the pants in 42x34 that’s the size I normally wear, too tight in thighs, bought a second pair in 44x34 better but the waist is too big. Pants need more room in the crotch for kneeling n squating.

I don't have an iPhone, but mu LG K10 is 5-7/8 in. tall and fits in all packets with room to spare. I tried using the cell phone pocket in front, and while the phone does fit, when seated it wants to ride out and is not very comfortable. I carry my phone in the left hand side pocket with no issues. I feel confident your iPhone will ride there just fine.

I believe that it would fit. I have a Kyocera DuraForce pro and at 6 inches, it fits easily. I have to carry two phones for work so I have an iPhone 6s also. They both will easily fit in the cell pocket together with at least another inch to half inch to spare from the top of the pocket. A friendly reminder though, take them out when you get into a vehicle. The seatbelt makes it nearly impossible to do so once you are strapped in.

How water proof / water resistant are these pants? Would they hold up being outside in light rain for a few hours like water proof hiking pants or would they get wet like a pair of jeans or khakis?
    1 Answers
They would hold up for a while. It really depends on how hard the rain is. They are Teflon coated so the water rolls off of them for the most part. They eventually will start to soak through though.

Will the pants shrink after washing and if so approximately how much? I got the 44x32 and its a little roomy, not bad but if afraid if I go down to the 42x32 and there is shrinkage i'll be in trouble.
    3 Answers
These pants are awesome, but already run a tad snug. If you normally wear a 44, I'd stick with it. I wear a 35 technically (34 too snug/36 a bit loose) but the size 36 in these pants fits. I haven't noticed if they shrink at all. Dry them on a medium setting to be on the safe side.

I've worn these pants for about 2.5 years on my current pair and they have not shrank from washing. I went with the 38x30 because i'm low speed high drag and needed the extra room for IWB. They do have an elastic waist band so they should fit your standard 42 and stretch a little if needed. If they are roomy at 44 you should be safe at 42 with the stretch.

I would suggest getting these pants one size bigger. They fit a little tighter than I am used to versus the TruSpecs. Especially if these pants are for training or at the range.

Yes, I think so. Even though there are numerous pockets, they are not bulky. These are great pants! They have a slimmer profile than regular cargo pants.

What's the difference between urban recon and urban ops?
    2 Answers
The design is very similar however the Recon uses a heavier 100% cotton duck canvas whereas the Ops uses 65/35 poly/cotton rip-stop fabric.

I own every color of the Urban Ops and same with the shorts.. awesome"water beading" type of material and great non wrinkle..last month I wanted another Black pair and the website said discontinued and I was terribly shocked being these are amazing pants..so I purchased the Recon version.. completely unhappy. Immediately out if the packaging I knew I was not going to be satisfied. The Recon is a heavier"duck canvas" that wrinkles horrendously and catches all lint and pet fur. They basically are the equivalent of a Walmart type cargo pant that unless you iron them and carry a lint roller.. your gonna look shabby. On the flip side, the Ops pants that I kwn 7 of and 5 shorts of.. right out of the washing machine all I do is hang them on a chair and they are ready to wear in a couple hours with zero wrinkles and nothing sticks to them. I'm not knocking the Recons purposely, I'm only explaining the truth and differences feom a customer with 15 products from LAPG..hope it helps in your choice of what's the difference between the two..

How do these pants fits for someone that is 5'2". With other tactical pants the side pockets come down by the knees and the knee sections go past the knees
    3 Answers
I'm 6' the side pockets ride an inch or two above my knee. These pants for well in the waist, but were a bit short in length for me. I like the pants, but reordered longer.

I can't exactly speak to how they would fit on someone who is 5'2" but I am 5'8" with somewhat short legs. I have had trouble with side pockets on other pants hitting my knees, but I don't have that issue with the Urban Ops pants. I have an extra inch or so above what would be uncomfortable. Hope this helps!

Your overall height really won't help us dictate where the features of the pants will line up. However, I can state that the side cargo pockets on all of my pairs of Urban Ops pants bottom-out right at the bottom of the knees...Not any further below the knee. I'm 6.1

I don’t find them to be baggy for tactical wear. They aren’t like a fitted jean but they aren’t baggy either.

It depends on your waist-hip ratio. If you're shaped like an oil drum (which I am), they'll fit you well. If you have more than a 5-6" difference between your waist and hip measurement, you'll probably want to order 1 pair and see if it works for you. Many women on our SAR team just order these, but a few have had to go to the women's cut. It also makes a difference if this is for dress or field uses. Price doesn't seem to make a difference in how your pants will handle a rough field day, so consider whether you care how they look when you're crawling through blackberries or along rip-rap!

    sit at waist?
    1 Answers
It sits right at the waist and not below. The only problem is that the sizing is more like a jean cut because while the waist is expandable, there is not much room in the crotch part that is bulges out. I have a Tru-Spec Tactical Pants with the same size, 40 x 30 and they felt more comfortable. But the only problem with the Tru-Spec is that their OD color is not as deep dark as the LA Police Gear.

How is the sizing/fit of these compared to the 5.11 stryke pants?
    1 Answers
I was able to pull a couple from the ware house to try. The fit is very similar. Both were about the same length and had about the same amount of room at the waist and through the legs I was able to do a full range of motion squat in both. The only significant difference was that the 5.11 pair was a little roomier in the hip area but that may be that I’m pushing the limit of that size of pant.

None of the pants I received have the ability to slip in a knee pad. The seamstress at your local dry cleaner can probably set you up with an insert pocket if you really need them. The pants were primarily designed for rugged comfort.

    1 Answers
You can actually order a size to have them hemmed. The fit of tactical pants are going to be somewhat baggy, they are tactical with many pockets and designed to be that way for extreme movement. It sounds like you are looking more of a slim fit, you may look at the casual pants.
