Great improvement over standard issued holster
Great holster department issued holster is only a level 2 wanted to step it up. Overall happy only improvement I wish for is the ability to close the hood without having to depress the thumb button

    Most for money
Having always carried concealed in my prior job, I was unsure if a level 3 holster would be significantly difficult to get used to vs a level 1. I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of drawing from this level 3. I would definitely recommend it to anyone transitioning, especially if you've use a Serpa holster is the past.

Level III Serpa Holster for Duty
I carry a Sig P226 MK25 for duty. Trying to find a holster that fits due to the rails was not easy. This fits like a glove.
ProsThe fit. I am kind of biased though, I have loved Blackhawk holster since my active duty days.
ConsI sometimes miss the second lock release with my trigger finger. Not really a design flaw, moreso practice.

    Great holster
I have been carrying this same model holster with different pistols for the last seven or eight years. Great holster at a reasonable price.
ProsGreat security but, easily accessible when I need it.
Cons I have had three of these holsters for different pistols over the last few years .With daily use they all have the same problem. The Phillips head screws on the back of the holster tend to back out. I have to tighten them up every couple of weeks. If this was corrected I would give it 5 stars.

    Would Recommend For Many Applications
This is my first 'open-carry' holster that I've used and I absolutely love it. However, this holster + jacket slot belt (low ride) attachment may not work for everyone - it depends on the person and usage. If you have long arms and/or wear a tactical vest, then this low-ride (jacket slot) is a must-buy in my opinion. The lower ride height allows me to wear a tactical vest and be able to draw quickly and comfortably, without snagging the firearm on my vest or molle attachments. I see others wearing a vest + mid-ride holster and they have a difficult time drawing their sidearm b/c the vest gets in the way (or their long arms make it awkward to draw at such a position). Some dislike the "level III" safety on this holster (it's another safety that the thumb must depress which opens a hard plastic flap covering the hammer), but I have no issue with it. In fact, just 10 minutes of practice with this holster and I was able to draw quickly with and without a tactical vest. Also, this thumb safety gives greater protection against accidental firearm release (or release during a struggle); plus, the cover over the hammer helps to keep dirt/grass/mud/etc. out of your internal parts if you have to crawl. I would not use this level III holster with a high or mid-ride belt attachment b/c the flap covering the hammer may prevent a quick/easy draw. With the few limitations in mind, I would recommend this to anyone.
ProsGood fit Well made / Sturdy Performs well - Fast draw Good safety Great for use with tactical vest
ConsLevel III retention holster might not work well with a mid or high ride attachment due to flap over hammer.

    Best Damn Duty Holster... Period!
I used to use a Safariland 070 holster (Still a great holster!) but had the Serpa off duty holster & loved it! I saw this holster & decided to try it & haven't looked back! Once you get the "muscle memory " down with a few hundred draws to disengage the retention of you weapon, this is a really fast & clean holster to draw from. I replaced it 5 years later; no reason other than wanting to insure functionality- my old holster is on my range rig & still functions flawlessly! Don't pass this holster up!!!

Yes, but it would not be a Level 3 holster with the hood up. It would be the same in that configuration as any SERPA holster which would lack the two point retention holster system. I can myself draw a pistol from a conventional SERPA holster both while facing an officer and from behind, that is why my organization would discourage that mode of carry. A better question might be whether the 1911 version of this holster has a hammer cut slot allowing the 1911 to be carried cocked and locked (condition 1) with the hood down. Otherwise I would recommend the 5.11 thumb-drive holster also sold by LAPG, also sold on this site. Or go with a conventional SERPA. According to Youtube, there is such a SERPA holster with a hammer slot. But I am not sure that it is the same model number. I have owned competed with and carried a 1911 but carry a Glock for work. Thumbs up to LAPG. I get excellent service, excellent product, excellent price. 22 yrs Army and USAR, retired; 5 years Security management and Armed guard license (state)

I've carried SERPA holsters for several different makes/models, and I really do like them. The key to getting the best out of the SERPA is making sure you get exactly the right one for your firearm. Since the first level of retention is the holster friction "pinch", almost exactly the same frame isn't what you want. Also, the second level of retention grabs hold of the trigger guard. If the trigger guard is even a slightly different shape, you can't count on the holster to do its job safely and securely. Lastly, for this Level 3 model, if the first two points above are OK, but your pistol is even slightly longer than the model for which the holster was designed, the retention hood may or may not work properly. My recommendation: if after doing your research you are satisfied that your pistol is an exact fit, go ahead and order, but be prepared to return it if there is ANY doubt in your mind about the fit after you have placed your [unloaded] pistol in the holster and tried it out. LAPG is great about handling returns and exchanges. I trust them to give you the right advice there.

I believe this platform should work to change this to the paddle - http://www.lapolicegear.com/bpg-410902bk-paddle.html I thought at first the screws were too far spaced apart, but i was looking at the wrong screws. The ones on the top are for the belt loop retention, so disregard those. The others are the one actually holding that in place, and those look to fit this platform just fine.

I own the Black Hawk Level III Serpa auto lock Duty Holster. It will fit a 2 1/4" Duty belt which my duty belt is. I didn't think they made duty belts with the width of 2 3/4" . Hope this helps.

I'm looking at this holster for an H & K ups compact. Why does the word (EURO) next appear next to the type of gun?

There are two versions of the p2000 a American version an a European version. This would not affect your weapon and it would fit fine.

What is the extra advantage of Level 3 vs Level 2 Serpa Auto Lock?
    1 Answers
The level 3 provides an extra layer of security by putting a hood on the holster that is locked down until you release it manually to un-holster the weapon. were as the level 2 does not have this added security.
