Currently the lightest weight Level III+ Ballistic Steel Core Body Armor in the word! AR500 Armor Lightweight Level III+ Body Armor is the pinnacle of evolution in steel body armor; the result of breaking down barriers through innovation and dedication to providing the ultimate ballistic steel core body armor. Genetically similar to our standard level III+ ballistic core, we?ve taken our re-engineered formula which yields a 30% increase in strength, and made it thinner and lighter. The result is an evolved form of steel body armor, and an industry first ballistic steel core chest plate weighing in at just over 5lb, in our 10? x 12? Advanced Lightweight Shooters Cut (ALSC). Not only is our Lightweight Level III+ body armor the lightest steel body armor on the market, it?s also the thinnest measuring in with a core thickness of only .21?. The ultra-thin profile improves comfort when shouldering a rifle and reduces overall bulk of your gear. Our Advanced Lightweight Shooters Cut (ALSC) provides protection of your vitals with strategic material reduction in locations to mitigate bulk, reduce weight, and improve ergonomics and function. Our ALSC is slightly undersized on the horizontal axis to ensure compatibility with all plate carriers. Rugged and reliable, our Lightweight level III+ body armor retains many of the benefits AR500 Armor? Body Armor is known for. Including stress fracture resistance, multi-hit performance, and the longest shelf life in the industry. Multi-Hit capabilities are reduced in comparison to our Level III, and standard Level III+ body armor, in addition to a slight increase in back face deformation on impact due to the thinner profile of our lightweight ballistic core. Although performance still exceeds alternative armor solutions such as Ceramic/Composite, Dyneema, and UHMWPE body armor by a significant margin at a fraction of the cost! AR500 Armor? level III+ lightweight body armor is capable of defeating 5.56x45 M193, 5.56x45 M855/SS109, 7.62x39 (AK), and 7.62x51 M80 Ball (.308 Winchester) rounds. Independent and in-house testing has shown our armor well exceeds standard level III threats; our philosophy has always been to over deliver! Coated with industry leading PAXCON (a division of Line-X) spall and fragmentation protective coating.
Level III+/Special Threat Tested AR500 Armor? body armor is Stand-Alone and Multi-Hit capable. Designed to defeat the most common rifle threats in existence. 5.56x45 M193 and 5.56x45 M855 SS109 at a velocity of up to 3,000 feet per second, and 7.62x39, 7.62x51 M80 NATO Ball (.308 Winchester) at velocities up to 2,850 feet per second. Giving this two stars is absurd, a review is for the product, not the manufacturing timeline. The reason they are backordered is that this armor is pretty incredible. With the standard coating, it's just over a quarter inch thick, and about 5 pounds per plate (so ~10-12 pounds front and back plus your carrier's weight). The curved plate with this shooters cut is very comfortable, easy enough to sit in while wearing, and in comparison to the armor a Marine buddy of mine has, covers more of your body, has a higher threat rating, weighs less, and is more comfortable. If you need hard armor, you should have this. If you just want hard armor, you should have this.

feel misled from the start...
First let me say, this review is absolutely biased IN FAVOR of steel armor. for those of us who are no longer issued expensive and temperamental ceramic plates that have to be replaced regularly i feel that cheap, durable, and long lasting steel plate armor is a an acceptable solution for many of us even at the expense of weight and efficiency. In all the research i have done that gap also seems to be narrowing as steel armor technology advances and ceramic just stays incredibly impractical for anyone not active duty or sponsored. so why the poor rating? Body Armor is only good if worn right? LApolicegear has been a go to shop in the past but has the back-order at listed at 8-10 days. my order has been placed for months. I contacted LApolicegear and asked them about the delay, i was informed AR500 is pushing back delivery at least another 3 weeks. I asked LA to please change the advertised back order date to a less misleading and more realistic delay time since they were aware... oh yeah but this is about the plates right? so i put my buddies plates on and thought they were fairly decent. anti-spall coating really does just seem like bedliner, but at $25 id say get the buildup coating. also... if you have ever worn rigid plates i recommend getting curved or even better multi curve for your forward plate. again.. the curve is worth the price. if it isn't comfortable you wont wear it. which brings me back to my final issue. AR500 itself. it doesnt matter to me how AWESOME this armor may be if i dont have it, i cant wear it. I cant lie and say i didnt know that AR500 was slow to fill orders, i did. However, if that is the case why is it constantly being put on sale? its like they are trying to make the largest possible backorder they can make. so.. the service i got on this order was bad, the expectations i was given were not met, the product seems good but is currently stopping 0 bullets from hitting me, the only thing i expect it to do; so i guess its a poor buy in armor thus far.
Prosa realistic approach to armor for we the people affordable lightweight for steel armor lasts longer than your knees will.
Consit wont stop any projectiles if you never get it. misleading expected backorder delay from lapolicegear AR500 continues to put items on sale despite not being able to fill orders. poor customer service from lapolice gear (got "hung up on" in live chat when i asked about my concerns) heavier than ceramic spalling they will probably censor this review yet it meets all the requirements of the review policy, (i do have another set of these plates)

How much weight does the build up coat add?
According to the manufacturer it adds about 5%, so still less than 7lbs.

STAB RESISTANCE OF THIS PLATE Hello. Several months ago I ordered two of these plates, (haven't gotten word of when they'll arrive but that's beside the point) I work as a paramedic in the field and admissions at a local emergency room in Texas, in a city that is becoming increasingly violent. I'm worried about the stab resistance of this plate. At first I figured, "hey, steel plate, right?" But one of the local officers who is here recently told me that some plate armor is NOT stab resistant. I'd like to know. (One of the staff members was stabbed to death here not too long ago, had no protection at all) I'd like to know for sure that it's safe for both ballistic threats and stabbings. And if you could give me a date when you might get them back in stock that'd be awesome too. Thank you in advance Paul Eschenfelder
I recommend that you contact AR500. They have a very knowledgeable staff that should be able to direct you to what you need for the threat level you would like to protect against. Here's a link to their contact information - http://www.ar500armor.com/contact-us.html I'll check with other customers as well to see if they have any feedback for you.

This product is steel armor plating, which will protect you from edged weapons as well as from most firearms. Soft body armor is a different story, as most soft body armor is not stab resistant.

"Soft" armor (level II-IIIA) is usually made of kevlar or other composite weaves, and can be penetrated with a sharp enough object(ice pick, knife). They are made to withstand a small blunt force trauma of a bullet(that feels like a sledgehammer!) But just applying enough armstrength with a piercing weapon puts enough energy on a smaller point to get through the soft armor types. This on the other hand is .25" thick STEEL plate, wich will defeat up to a .308 at about 2700 fps and all hand gun rounds, edward scissor hands, and freddy kruger! Since I live in Az, I've made 4 orders directly fron AR500 from 2015-2016. IOTV BAE contract overrun set, 10×12 level III curved ASC set, Urban go level III set, and 2 6×8 level III with another 10x12 level III. longest wait was the first order at 8 weeks( initially 10 weeks) move to Az!
