SureFire R1 Lawman 750 Lumens Rechargeable Flashlight
SKU #: SMO-SF-R1-A-BK
Designed for law enforcement officers, the rechargeable R1 Lawman™ LED flashlight features a maximum output of 750 lumens, and head and tailcap switches that are user programmable. This dual-fuel capable light also has the ability to run on either its included rechargeable lithium-ion (li-ion) battery or two disposable or rechargeable 123A cells. The Lawman’s precision micro-textured reflector produces a smooth, wide beam with extensive reach and generous peripheral illumination, perfect for a broad range of police and security applications including temporarily blinding opponents.
The Lawman’s tactical tailcap switch activates the 750-lumen output—press for momentary-on, twist for constant-on. If programmed by the user to do so, pressing the tailcap switch three times rapidly will activate the high-intensity strobe mode. A separate click-type head switch lets you access three light levels: high (750 lumens), medium (150 lumens), and low (15 lumens)—or it can be programmed to activate high output only. See programming chart by clicking the small image at left.
Charging of the li-ion rechargeable battery is accomplished via the integral charging port on the side of the Lawman’s body—no need to remove the battery or place the light in a separate charging cradle. Both wall (AC) charger with international adapters and car (DC) charger are included. Constructed from tough aerospace aluminum that is Mil-Spec hard anodized for extreme durability, the Lawman is O-ring and gasket sealed to keep out moisture, dirt, and dust.
NOTE: When disposable 123A batteries are used in the R1 Lawman (1) the maximum output is 500 lumens; (2) medium and low output levels remain the same as with li-ion battery use; (3) runtimes at all settings are roughly 75% of li-ion battery runtimes.

Great Features and built well.
There are two things I like most. The first is the button on the headlamp allows for dim mode while the tail cap can instantly activate the brightest mode of operation. The second is that the light is very well built, feels sturdy, the knurling is aggressive and precisely machined. It was nice of surefire to include a car charger and standard wall charger as well as the batter back up.

r1 lawman flashlight
I love this light. I am a law enforcement officer and security officer. This thing is great.like the reviews say if you drop it on the bezel you will break the lens glass. I did this but surefire replaced and fixed it free of charge. I will tell you the fix is glue a clear rubber scope cap on the bezel. After I did this its indestructible .the light is super bright I do not have charge it bery much either It indestructible.
Pros Tough Bright Long run time Battery meter on light
ConsWeak bezel until you glue a rubber scope cap over it.

tailcap switch failed 4 days after purchase
Four days after receiving this light the tail cap switch failed. The one positive to this light so far is the customer service rep at LA police gear immediately sent out a return authorization and shipping label. I will give this light another try. I would be cautious purchasing this light. I will amend this review if replacement light performs better.
ConsAlmost immediate failure of component.

Not For Duty
Quick and Dirty: At first it's a great light- then it breaks and it's dead. Not reliable for patrol use. Experience is with 2 lights. This flashlight seems to be a one stop shop for a patrol light. About the right size, very bright, multiple modes, tailcap etc.. My first light worked well for a few months. Then one night I looked at it and it had a crack on the lens. Not terribly surprising since I bang on doors and treat the light roughly occasionally. The light has no holster but I stuck it in a department issue streamlight holster and it worked okay. The problem with this is the stupid button on the side would hit my radio or the car and turn on. This could be solved with a holster but not likely- it's poor button design. After about 9 months of use the light malfunctioned to the point I had to retire it. It would turn on randomly and wouldn't cycle properly. My guess is that the cracked lens in the rain caused the water to get to the circuitry but I don't know. So oddly enough I happened to have a second one and put that to use. 3 months later (with no cracked lens this time!) it is dead in the water. Not sure why. Very disappointing. The light may be suitable for a home defense purpose but make no mistake.. this is not for duty or the zombie apocalypse. Then again, why would you pay this much for a light that sits on your dresser?
ProsBright light Good light levels Tailcap
ConsCost!! Cracked Lens Easily Breaks randomly Not sturdy enough Side Button poorly designed No Holster

Awesome flashlight. Fits nicely on the duty belt.

Typical Surefire quality. Battery life a little questionable. Programming is simple. Tail switch could be more recessed as it does protrude slightly from the cap. Charging plug seems a little cheesie. It sticks out the side, and could possibly wiggle out of let to roll around on a busy paper filled desk top. Perhaps an "L" shaped plug in or larger, more secure plug would work. Light is bright, multiple outputs very useful. Not sure if it really is 750 lumens however. Quality is outstanding. The accessories provided top notch. Surefire just needs to make a quality sheath or some type of pouch for it!
ProsQuality. Programmable capability. Multiple battery modes. Accessories. Dual switches.
ConsCharging plug could be built better. Questionable battery life. No pouch. Price.

I got mine from here because their prices were the best. I ordered it when it first came out so it shipped right away. I would imagine now with every cop and security professional wanting this light it will be backordered for a while. The duel switches I love as if you leave the head switch on low it will stay on low so if you need to do a surveillance walk without setting out 750 lumens you can make it go to low power first or press the tail-cap switch at any time and go right to high. It's brightness exceeded my expectations and so far have had no issues with it holding up.

Review for SureFire R1 Lawman 750 Lumens Rechargeable Flashlight
Surefire products are top of the line. And even though they are quite pricey, lapolicegear typically has unbeatable prices. But,their usually awesome service slipped with Lawman purchase, having to wait two MONTHS for delivery. Indeed, their site now warns of 4-TEEN to 6-TEEN days instead of 4-6 days for backorder. As for the carry pouch complaints, I've found any pouch at all at the local Army-Navy store. It's a no-brainer.

Not Up To PAR
First let me start by saying I am a Surefire Brand Whore. Love their products and customer service. I have their weapon ligths and multiple handheld. This is the 1st rechargible I've gotten from them and was waiting for it for over a year. I have been using the standard Streamlight Stingers for duty use. My first week carrying my R1 Lawman on duty, and when i went to put it in its belt holster i missed and it fell to the ground cracking the lens. (AGH) Upset but not concerned I sent it back to Surefire and about 3-4 weeks later i have it back as good as new. Again back at work i set it on the trunk of a car to fill paperwork on and it rolled away and fell to the ground. Again the lens is CRACKED. Another problem is now the battery will not recharge and i'm using the 123A carrier to keep it going. The supplied battery sounds like theres sand ratteling around in it. I'm a Patrol officer and i work from 6P to 4A. I use the end of my light to knock on doors and windows. I use my lights as tools and need them to keep up. The light quality was great and clear. Thes Size and Weight were great. The option of duel source battery is outstanding. So, far I'm really let down with this product considering the name and $ I had to pay for it. I recommend this light if your a Surefire collector or for home/light use. In the field it wont hold up. I am disappointed in this specific product.

Love the flashlight but there's no holster for it. I am rating the flashlight 5 stars, Surefire 0 (zero) stars for not making a holster for it.

Best illumination tool available
This is one helluva flashlight. I call mine "daylight". It is not cheap, but when you need illumination, this thing has it in spades. It charges in the car, and should the rechargeable batteries die on you, just reload with the supplied CR123 magazine, and get back to turning night into day. Only thing needed is a vehicle cradle to hold it while charging. I have to keep mine in my P-bag. The 3 output settings are good and intuitive - go to 50 percent if you're looking to extend runtime and just want to be seen in an intersection but not blind drivers, go to 15 percent if you need to read a license. Crank it up while searching for lost puppies and armed suicidal gunmen. Go get em killers!

This would be the perfect flashlight for patrol use if there was a belt or Molle holster for it. You would think that a company wanting to sell a $300+ dollar flashlight would make sure there was a way to carry it!

are there any aftermarket brand holsters that wil fit this flashlight? I really want it, but I need to have it on a duty belt.
There are a few flashlight holders that will fit this flashlight, but not many. Some options would be the Bianchi 7326 Holster (Part number 22838), the Bianchi 7926 Flashlight Holders (Part numbers 22096, 22097 and 22321) and the Blackhawk 44A201 Ring Holders. We could not find any holders in our warehouse that have a closing flap that will fit this flashlight.

I am a deputy sheriff and work patrol on the midnight shift. I've been carrying this light every night for almost a year now and I love it! I ran across a website where they make kydex holsters for various lights. This one included. I bought mine almost the same time as the light and have been using the two in tandem and they are a match made in heaven. Money very well spent. Fit and finish is awesome. You won't be disappointed! http://www.multiholsters.com/add.htm

Can you turn the lawman on at the head switch in the middle mode at any time, or do you have to start at high and click down to the middle mode?
You can program the R1 light so that the head switch will "remember" the last output you used and turn on at that output level the next time you use it.
