    Good light, but has shortcomings
First off, I LOVE everything LAPG! Rarely do I have a complaint about their gear, you could consider me a fanboy. BDU's, shirts, shoes, boots, bags, etc. Love, love, love their gear. That said, I was hoping this flashlight would be more. It is bright, easily comparable to the Streamlight ProTac HL. The only downside to this light is the switch No momentary (my fault for not reading the description thoroughly). And if you turn it on (highest setting), then turn it off, then turn it back on within a few seconds, it goes to the next lowest setting. Do the same thing again, and you are on the lowest setting. Once more, and you are on strobe. If this light had a momentary on/off, and had the ability to turn it on and off at the highest setting every time, with the option to toggle through for any other setting you needed, then it would be a ProTac killer. If someone was looking for a nice bright, durable, rechargeable light, then I could recommend this. But I could not recommend this for any LE usage, or any serious CCW'er for EDC use.
ProsEvery bit as bright as a Streamlight ProTac HL Cost Rechargeable
ConsNo momentary Have to toggle through the settings to get back to HIGH if you had just turned it off

I like it but..... will not stay on high.
LAPG - great customer service! The light is well built, super bright, and the battery is excellent considering the huge light output. What I don't like - I've been using tactical lights for years in LE. I have always wanted any light which has an adjustable brightness feature to always have the ability to start on the highest setting every time. I never want to have to worry about it coming on at anything less than high unless I intentionally set it that way. I have two of these exact same lights, they both do not function the way I desire. The light comes on in the highest setting immediately, if you shut it off as you would searching in the dark for tactical reasons, then turn it back on, it comes on again in the highest setting, great. BUT if you turn it on a third time in less than thirty seconds, IT WILL NOT come on in the high setting. You must cycle through every setting to get back to high. Not good. If you have turned the light on and off twice, and have waited more than 30 seconds for the third cycle, it will come on again in the high setting. So the long and the short of the two lights which I have is - Good solid construction - Great price! - bad setting features on the light for me at least. I want the ability to have the light come on high every single time.
ProsLAPG customer service is always great!!!!!!! price, construction, brightness, battery life.
Conssee narrative in review. lights do not come on the high setting every time. twice in a row on high, then you must cycle through all the settings or wait 30 seconds. NO momentary on function.

    It's a keeper
I am a flashlight freak and have an extensive 'collection' of flashlights. This one is new and has yet to see a lot of use but is seems to be a keeper. The tailpiece tether s a nice touch. The light is very bright and adjustable. The case is a little tight but I expect that will change with time. Good job with this one.

Great Light for the money !
This is a great light for the money, very, very bright and hold a charge for a long time. My light arrived missing the lanyard, and spare button and O-ring, all it took was an email to customer service and the missing parts were shipped to me fast. I've never purchased anything from LAPG wither its clothing, boots or gear that wasn't a good deal.

The o-ring can be changed by simply unscrewing the body at the charge port and then unscrewing the cap at that covers the battery compartment. Once there simply slide the old o-ring off and the new one on. Unfortunately the tail-cap switch cannot be replaced.

I got my Recon Rechargeable Flashlight today. However, there are no instructions and I have a few questions. I don’t want to break it by forcing something I shouldn’t force. !. Which end does the battery go in? 2. How long should I charge it before first use? 3. How do you turn it on? 4. How do you change modes?
    6 Answers
Mark, There are two pieces that unscrew from the tail piece for battery insertion. The switch and the charging cap. Charge for about 2 hrs. The led will change from red to green. Press the switch repeatedly to change modes. Well built, super bright but your right, no instructions.

    1. I put battery in switch end. Take the cap off. There is another little USB cap that screws off. Drop battery in there. 2. Has LED. I just plugged in and let charge overnight. 3. Just tap switch on tail end like other tactical flashlights 4. Tap the switch and it cycles thru different modes.

To open the flashlight, unscrew the button end. Once unscrewed, you will find a second cap where the micro-usb plug gets connected for charging. To insert the batter, unscrew the micro-usb cap. You will find a + sign on the inside tube of the flashlight indicating which end of the battery goes in first. Once the battery in in, replace the micro-usb cap and plug in the charging cable. My first full charge took a few hours (the LED light will initially be red while charging and then will go to green when fully charged). Once fully charged, you can replaced the button cap. Toggle through the four modes (High, Medium, Low, Strobe) with each click of the button. Enjoy!

    1. Which end does the battery go in? The tail cap unscrews and then you unscrew the charging part. The edges are serrated so you can grip it. 2. How long should I charge it before first use? I used it out of the box and recharged it overnight. The light at the charging port turns green when its fully charged. 3. How do you turn it on? Push button on the tail cap. 4. How do you change modes? When the light is on press the button slightly to go from High - Medium - Low - Strobe.

The back end unscrews. It is actually in two parts, with the charging port in the top portion of the unscrewed back and the battery under the second portion. My battery was pretty well charged, and I haven't yet had to charge it. Turn it on by clicking the push button at the base. Starts at highest power and each successive click lowers. Three steady beams and then strobe. You have to click through, and it starts on the highest.

    1) battery goes in the end opposite the light. Unscrew the end and you will see a peice that has a cord attached. Twist this off and you will see where the battery goes. 2)not sure on charging the battery, does not take long 3) the power switch is on the end opposite the light. There is a button you press 4) pressing the power button the first time will give the brightest light, press again and you switch to less. Light, press once more for alternating light

Will the light accept and charge third party button top 18650 batteries? The battery pictured appears to be a flat top 18650 battery,
    1 Answers
While the tail cap battery spring is very firm, it appears to have enough travel to accept a button top 18650 battery. I don't know for certain because I've never tried it. Bear in mind the unit has two tail springs, one in the removable cap that exposes the charge port and charging/charged light (Red/Green), and another spring inside the charging port/LED assembly that makes contact with the negative connection on the battery. The spring that is extra firm is the one that actually makes contact with the battery and that internal assembly is out of necessity made of non-conductive material (non-metal), so you may wish to try button top batteries using the appropriate level of caution.

    2 Answers
It does not have a momentary on function. When the switch is flipped it's on for good until you toggle it off. As you toggle on and off it goes to the lower lumen settings and finally to the strobe on the fourth click. You do not have to cycle through every brightness setting to shut if off. One click on...one click off.
