Description

LA Police Gear's new line of Range Bags are like every other LAPG product - packed with features, high quality, reliable, and at a price that won't break the bank. We chose to make four range bags in this new line, because that way each of these bags can meet specific needs and you are sure to find the right one for your gear.

The Line-Up

  • The Basic
  • The Basic Plus
  • The Deluxe
  • The Elite

  • The Elite

The LA Police Gear Elite Range Bag is the leader of the pack/best range bag in the line. We spared no expense, and packed this thing with anything we could possibly think of that you'd need. Staring on the inside, it is easily accessed through the very wide opening, which is easy to open with dual zippers and single zipper pull.

Once inside, you will find a removable stage bag/ammunition carrier which features adjustable dividers, 6 pistol magazine pockets, two zippered side pockets great for storing pistols, a clipable brass pouch (which has an open bottom to shake out dirt/debris), and clips on the outside for you to attach the shoulder strap if so desired. Also inside the main compartment, you will find two side pockets that are each packed with their own removable, padded and lined pistol cases.

Whew! That was just the inside, the outside is just as impressive. The large external pocket features 8 pistol magazine pockets, as well as an elastic band perfect for cleaning supplies or small objects. On the opposite side, the two large padded pockets feature elastic bands as well. On one end you have a large padded pocket with an identification tag holder, and on the other end there is a smaller padded pocket and a water bottle holder.

    Features:

  • Elite Range Bag with Removable Stage Bag/Ammunition Carrier
  • Carry by Top Handles or Shoulder Strap
  • Made from 600D Polyester with PVC Coating
  • Includes Two Removable Spare Pistol Pockets
  • Reinforced Base Plate is Removable
  • Extensive, thick padding throughout entire bag
  • Wide Opening Top with Dual zippers and a single pull for easy access
  • Identification panel on side pocket

Great bag at a great price
I first bought one of these for my personal range use. After using it for a couple of range trips, I bought a second bag to support broader range use when I'm instructing. At roughly half the price of other "top of the line" bags, this bag easily offers the same or better qualities. In comparison to other makers' bags, LA Police Gear offers the best bang for the buck with a quality product backed with a meaningful guarantee. Large side and end pockets allow for segregation of types of equipment; range tools (staplers, binder clips, tape, pasters) vs tools (Allen wrenches, multi-tool, cleaning supplies) keeping things neatly organized and avoiding the "kitchen sink, big bag of stuff" syndrome and leaving the main compartment clear for weapons. Provides a level of safety as well as protection for your firearms,
ProsMaterials and construction are top-notch. The side panel magazine organizer works great for competition, letting me keep practice mags separate from carry and competition mags, along with letting me know at a glance that everything is accounted for. Heavy duty zippers. Sterile appearance; doesn't scream "guns" with ridiculously large logos.
ConsNo major drawbacks. The bag has some heavy duty padding that may, or may not, suit everyone but it's certainly not overly padded like some.

    Big upgrade
I updated my range bag from an old hand me down duffle bag. Since my old bag was so bad anything wood have been an improvement however this range bag is of excellent quality. It's big enough to fit all of my targets, sandbags, ear muffs, ammo and all the rest of my junk I take with me. The bag is durable and I really like the fact that it comes with a removable inner bag and a brass bag. It's really like getting 3 separate bags for the price of one. Buying this bag had actually made me want to go to the range more just so I can use it. I would not hesitate to recommend this bag to anyone.
ProsExcellent heavy duty fabric with strong stitching. Great value. Comes with inner bag and brass bag included. Solid straps and handle straps that don't quit. Wide feet on bottom of bag to provide additional protection. Roomy main compartment with multiple pockets that have enough storage for the kitchen sink. Dedicated mag pockets.
ConsI can't think of one negative thing to say about this bag.

    Great range bag
When I ordered this bag I wanted one large enough that I could put everything I would need at the range other than ammo. This bag did not disappoint. I'm able to put and cleaning kit, tool kit, rangefinders, binoculars, timer, first aid, 4-500 rounds of ammo, and 2 handguns and still have room for more. When loaded the bag weights in around 25-30lbs and it is holding up well.
ProsLarge capacity, well made and very affordable

    Quality Bag
A really enjoyable and well designed bag with pockets for anything you could possibly imagine or use. I've already enjoyed taking it to the range a couple of times. I probably went overboard getting this one since it is much larger than I expected (yes there are measurements I just didn't grok them).
Pros* Pistol bags included * Nice ammo carrier insert * Bags fit enough hearing protection for me and the kids
    Cons* None.

    Quality item
As advertised, this bag is formatted and laid out for people who haul a lot to the range. It is constructed with quality materials, but, as with anything else that is purchased, it will be tested by time. It appears it is up to the task. As usual, dealing with L.A. Police gear was easy, and my package arrived unscathed. I look for several years of service out of this bag. I am not unrealistic in thinking this bag will hold up forever with the abuse our crew puts things through....it won't, but, I also know where I can obtain another. Well done, very good price, and service was very good.
    ProsVery well done bag.

This is a great Pistol Range bag. Lots of room for many pistol mags and pistols but nothing for AR or AK mags. Now that's not to say you can't fill one of the inner pistol pockets with mags. Chances of me taking 6 pistols to the range is slim. there are many stash spots that can be filled with whatever you want.

No. 9mm mags fit well in all slots and 45 mags fit decent in the skits in the middle. This bag is awesome but no slots for AR mags. There is plenty of room Yo stow any type of mag you want. Buy this bag!! You will not be disappointed.

If you meant AR Mag which I'm assuming you did. There is not a specific elastic band for AR mags. However the bag is a very good range bag for multiple pistols cleaning kits and tools etc. and there are plenty of pockets for AR mags that zip down.

I'm assuming your question was does it have a dedicated spot for AR 15 pistol mags? It does not have a dedicated pouch for AR 15 magazines However the bag is large and makes it easy to fit many AR mags in or around the bag I believe the LA police gear deluxe range bag does have specific compartments for A.R. 15 mags If LA police gear would intergrade two mag pouches for an AR 15 in with the pistol mags on the elite range bag that would be nice

Don't have the exact measurements but it is small, and inch or so smaller than the internal dimensions of the bag itself. It would be useful if you wanted to put things in it while on a bench, etc., but I'm thinking of taking it out altogether because it reduces the usable space inside the bag. The bag itself it very nice, particularly at the price. It is larger than I expected. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it, but the removable bag would not be one of my selling points :)

The one angle we don't see on this bag is the bottom. Are there any plastic feet / skid plates / protection of any kind or is it just plain nylon on the bottom. (I'd love for it to have a little extra protection down there.)
    9 Answers
There are two hard rubber/soft plastic skids, 5 inches long, that run across the bottom from front to back (short dimension). They are placed 3.5 inches in from the sides. They will not protect the corners of the bag but do provide some bottom protection and skid resistance.

There are 2 reinforcing strips of canvas on the bottom of the bag. They are about 1 1/2 to 2 inches wide and run the width of the bottom. On top of the canvas strips are thick rubber pads that are slightly narrower than the strips and about 6 to 8 inches long. Lots of extra protection on the bottom. I've used this bag several times now and it does well for me. I shoot 1 to 2 times a week at an outdoor range. Hope this helps!

Yes, there are 2 "feet" running the width of the bag, they are a solid rubber, each rib is 5" long 1 3/4" wide and are attached to a 2" nylon strap that appears to be the wrap around carry handle.

For me, it would be. I guess it depends on what "sufficiently" means to you. If you're going to carry the bag separately, it has an open top but has padding along both sides. There are velcro panels that go in the carrier that are a little padded as well. If you're going to carry the entire bag with the carrier inside, there is a lot of protection as the side of the bag have pouches that would allow an extra level of security.

It would be good if you really baby your equipment. I would recommend finding something more purpose driven for something fragile and expensive like a DSLR
    Erich
    on January 18, 2017

Yes but the ammunition carrier has no top if you were to use it as a separate stand alone carrier, it's basically a bucket. The sides do have a thin padding, they also double as a document compartment that is zippered on the top edge, you could add additional padding here also if needed, the sides are ridged and self standing/supporting. There are 2 dividers that can be re-positioned (or removed) using velcro along the inside of the carrier, I would suggest using form cut foam to hold your camera equipment. If your intention is to use the complete bag as a Camera bag it will be fine, the ammo carrier gives the bag rigidity and support, your camera equipment will be in the center of the bag protected by the main bag and additional padding and rigid support from the ammo carrier, If you want additional protection I would also add pre-cut foam over the ammo carrier compartment to make a lid/top to that compartment.

The LA Police Gear Elite Range Bag exceeds my expectations for the storage and protection for my 2 handguns and other gear. I have 2 camera backpacks that I use for transporting my Canon 40D and lenses. I prefer a fully enclosed case for my camera, but I would feel comfortable using the removable ammo carrier to temporarily store my 40D.

It depends how much other stuff you're trying to put in there. The pull out range caddy is approx 16 or so inches, so you could very likely fit an MPX in. The 2 pockets on either end are maybe just shy of 2" off the main compartment of the bag (each), so that leaves 18" +/- inside the bag. Obviously wouldn't fit with the magazine in there. as I think it'd be too tall. If you didn't bring the range caddy, I definitely think a sig MPX would fit as you could put it in diagonally as well. It's really optomized for hand gunners. It comes with a brass bag too, which isn't mentioned in the write up. This is good kit for a USPSA/IDPA guy.

Yes, the Sig MPX-P would fit inside the LAPG Elite Range Bag with the stock folded or collapsed. The LAPG Elite Range Bag Is an outstanding bag both in quality and price. I have been using the top of the line 5.11 range bag for at least 3 years and it is a great bag and the price was perfect at $99.00 but the Elite Range Bag from LAPG surpasses it in extra features and cost. The two bags are similar in overall design but the LAPG bag added two large removable pistol pouches, elastic retaining straps in three of the outer compartments for cleaning equipment, tools, etc., and a larger zipper design that is very smooth to manipulate. I use this bag when I teach/compete and I bought this bag for $54.99 on sale but I would have had no problem with paying the regular price of $79.00. Nice work LAPG.

Maybe. Barely. The length of the center compartment is about 16.5 inches. Diagonally it would fit without a problem if you take out the inner ammo/accessory bag. However the sides are padded and flexible, so if you insert one end down and stretch the end of the bag a bit it would accommodate it along side of the inner bag if you wedge it in a bit.

None of the zipper tabs are metal except the top. You'd probably not pass scrutiny with tiny padlock anyway. Better to use a locked plastic case in the main compartment rather than risk having your guns booked into evidence.

No. None of the pockets are lockable. You could make them uneasily accessible to sticky fingers, but I do not believe it would be considered lockable for legal purposes.

Short answer: ehhhhhhhh... I don't think any of the zipper pull tabs are made with locking ability in mind. However, you could technically use the holes in the tabs on the side pockets to lock those pockets (if you use the side pockets for your gun, not likely). Great bag, but if you are looking for a secure and lockable gun case/bag, there's better out there. I'm sure LAPG has them. ;)

Are you asking from a personal security perspective or from a 'Transport Requirements' perspective? For personal security, ANY nylon bag with "lockable zippers" isn't secure; Your contents in any bag/suitcase can be obtained by use of a razor blade or even a pen (on the zipper); For your Transport Requirements, no, the metal zipper tabs have been replaced by silent paracord pulls. However, these can be replaced by simply 'bending' the zipper tab attachment point (on any zipper) and putting $0.05 metal tabs back on and using a decorative lock. But then again, a zip-tie on any zipper meets the Minimum Transport Requirements. It's a great bag. Recommend getting a lockable pistol case and put it in the bag.

Short answer, YES, it's basically the exact same bag. ( you can stop reading after this, or you can continue to listen to me gush about how much I love this bag and LAPG). We sell the 5.11 brand at our range and it's price tag is double what LAPG sells theirs for. Same front, back, and side pockets. The insides are the same, including the interior bag. Only difference is, like you said, the LAPG one has more into it, like the magazine holders...and it's still cheaper! My previous range bag was becoming too small for what I needed and so I was looking at the 5.11 bag. Thank goodness I saw this one and I love it. If you have not already gotten it, get it. I now have room for three handguns, each of them having their own individual LAPG case (wink, wink), a couple pair of earmuffs, eye protection, and miscellaneous gear. I took out the interior bag to make more space so I figured it would just sit around, but I ended up using that the other day for a one on one private instruction I did. I LOVE this bag! And LAPG. Ha.

I wouldn't say "just like it" at all. The LA Police bag is significantly better than than the 5.11 bag which I purchased and then returned. Construction of the LA bag is substantially better, especially the zippers and stitching. I especially like the weight of the material which seems more robust. The only negative point I have on the bag is that it is over-padded for my use. Having said that, others may find it useful, especially if you don't use padded pistol bags (which I do). I also liked that it wasn't covered in branding and comes in the world's best color (OD green). My setup is 5-6 full size pistols with 5-6 mags per pistol. The LA bag accommodates everything I use for a range trip except ammo which I carry separately. You can pay twice as much for the 5.11 bag but you won't get as much.

Main Compartment (with interior tote/dump bag removed) - 16.5" Length x 8.5" Width x 9" height <= These are interior measurements and the volume should come to about 1262.25 cubic Inches. There are 5 exterior compartments. 2 Front Compartments = 7.75" length x 2.5" width x 9" height Volume = 174.375 cubic inches 1 Large Back Compartment = 16.5" length x 2.25" width x 9" height. Volume = 334.125 cubic inches Also there are to side pouches, one is smaller than the other. Small Side Pouch = 4.5" length x 2" width x 8.75" height Volume = 78.75 Cubic Inches Larger Side Pouch = 8" length x 2.25" width x 9" height Volume = 162 Cubic Inches I tried to stick to interior measurements for all of those, so hopefully that will help you get an idea of size.
