This jacket has done a good job keeping me dry. The build quality is as good as they come.
    Pros:
*Waterproof seams - lots of them *Vents - open zip type *Velcro patch flaps on chest that can be displayed or stowed - I display an American flag on mine, my dad displays an USMC patch on his *Pass-thru zippers on main front pockets to access concealed items
    Cons:
*does not breathe - not the best for a running jacket, but it isnt advertised as one.

    Outstanding Design and Function
    May 30, 2017
I bought this jacket because of the price and Blackhawk name. My purpose is purchasing it was to have a rain jacket for use while instructing at the range (I instruct at the academy as well as for my agency). I received the jacket two days before our first qual day and was able to test it out quite thoroughly as it POURED that first day and did the same the third day. This jacket kept me dry and comfortable in conditions that would have defeated my Columbia jacket (I know this from past experience) AND, thanks to its design, allowed me to wear my sidearm (side zipper) and carry my radio (slash chest pocket that was big enough to fit my radio). I was able to reach my cell phone on my belt through the pass through pockets. All while staying dry! Best $30.99 rain jacket I...CORRECTION, best rain jacket I've EVER had!
    Pros:
    1) Waterproof (I've had others that said they were, but after a few hours in a pouring rain were NOT) 2) Breathes 3) Multiple Pockets including pass-through slash pockets, all w/zippers 4) side opening for sidearm access

Haven't had a chance to have it out in rain yet (not that I'm complaining about that!). But I've worn it several chilly mornings (temps in the 30s) here in N.C., and it's excellent. It has enough pockets (well, does any jacket really ever have enough pockets?). Excellent value for Blackhawk quality.
    Pros:
    fit warmth light weight
    Cons:
    none

This thing is great. The sizing and fit are perfect. It is very warm and looks great. I would definitely recommend this to other detectives who are looking for a great covert jacket that easily converts (via the drop-down panels) into one that easily identifies you as a police officer.

which is really saying something as California has gotten a lot of rain so far this winter. My old Gor-Tex mountain coat had finally given its all and was literally coming apart at the seams but I saw a sale on this coat and I like Blackhawk gear so it was an easy purchase. Im pleased to report it does keep you dry, the hood is up to spec and so my dome also stays dry also.
    Pros:
    light weight good color combinations
    Cons:
no lining so if you're in a cold climate, you will need a sweater under the coat.

This jacket is absolutely water-proof. It also looks great. Many pockets but also multiple zippers to allow for ventilation. I am very pleased and would recommend this jacket highly. My only sorrow is that i paid $39.99 and the price got lowered to $30.99 several days after my order. Since posted MSRP was $300 I still think it was a great deal.
    Pros:
Well made jacket at an incredibly low price!

How close is the sizing cuts, do they run small or big? I noticed that one color has Velcro on the sleeves and the reviews said no Velcro and one said that they do have velcro on the sleeves. Thanks

I would say it's true to size in my observation. I have bought XL and it fits as expected. Mine doesn't have velcro but have zipper to make it tighter.

I bought a blue & the green. They both run quite big. If you're gonna layer, buy a size up. I bought a large specifically for camping, where I layer 2 layers of merino wool & a fleece. This will give me PLENTY of room. I'm 6'1" 185lbs. Got my wife (5'9", 140lbs) a med & small to try. The Small gives her some room to layer, the medium was cavernous. Sleeves are way too long on all sizes, and I have gorilla arms. No velcro on either the blue or green. For the price, I am very happy. This would be a $140 jacket at REI w/ all the zippers, vents, pockets. The green color is way off in the pics tho-I expected a tannish green, what arrived is dark OD & medium greens. No tan at all like the pics.

I found the size medium to run a bit big. I usually wear medium light-weight jackets, so I ordered a medium. I found the arms to be too long for me and the waist a bit big (which is fine if you wear duty gear as I do and want it protected from the rain). There is no velcro on the sleeves at least in the black color.

There is no velcro on the sleeves. The photo of the green jacket is not accurate and is possibly the shell jack that is $39. I am 5'10" 210 with a large upper body, the XL fits perfect. I also purchased the shell jack which runs large, the L in this model fits like an XL. The material of the advanced waterproof jacket is lighter and less tactical looking than the shell jack. A very nice jacket overall. I purchased the green and it is very sharp looking, I do wish the sleeves had velcro though. Hope this was helpful. C

Does this jacket have pockets? Functional, not mesh?
    5 Answers
Incredible value. The other comments were helpful in making the final decision; buy one size smaller than normal. I went out in the rain today; beads off no problems. The jacket is light, but has enough internal and external pockets to be useful. Be aware that this is meant as a outer layer and has no insulation to speak off. An interesting configuration on the "hand pockets"--an inner pocket zipper allows access to interior layers. I count five outer pockets, one inner, and zippers which allow access to ccw. My wife commented on how she loved the green color. No mesh to speak of.

Yes it does, as a matter of fact it has a zipper inside the pocket that unzips so you can retrieve your phone or anything on your hip without lifting or unzipping the jacket because it has a drawstring to tighten if you want a snug fit around the waist... it also has a left chest pocket Highly recommend this jacket

The jacket has multiple large pockets with high-quality zippers. The pockets are mesh, so I wouldn't use them for anything too sharp or heavy, but they are great for hats, gloves and documents that need to stay dry.

How does this differ from the Blackhawk Warrior Wear Shell Jacket: http://www.lapolicegear.com/co-bpg-82es00-shell-jak.html#qa ? I can see some differences in the style, but as far as major features, construction/material, weight (for size large), or any other notable differences, how do they differ?
    1 Answers
The biggest difference is that the shell jacket is part of a 3 part jacket system that has interchangeable layers to adapt to different environments. Beyond that they are basically the same jacket.

If I want to layer this, should I get a large if I wear a Medium?
    6 Answers
You don't need to order a size larger if you want to layer it over say a t shirt and a regular button up. It's pretty roomy for it's size. Blackhawk's sizes tend to run on the larger size anyway. Unless you're looking to wear a regular jacket under it, no.

Depends on how much layering. I'm a solid large (5'10" 200) and there's room under it for several thin layers or maybe 2 medium, or one thick layer. The sleeves are a little long to help cover the cuffs and zip open at the cuff if you need more room.

It is the same style as the black one pictured. The green one pictured isn't the right jacket. I have the green one and It's a lovely shade of green on front and back-doesn't look OD or "tactical" at all. The shoulder and back of arms is an almost OD green of heavier fabric. Been wearing it non-stop during our gloriously wet SoCal winter and it's very waterproof.

The side zipper is located directly under the armpit and starts about 1.5" from the pit seam and goes down approx 13" leaving about 2" from the bottom. It has two zipper tabs so you can adjust where exactly you want the opening or tabs to sit. This jacket is not lined but is comfortable none the less. Did well in the rain and I found no real issues with it.

As already mentioned, this jacket is only a shell. It has nothing that could be considered a liner, but it can easily be worn over other clothing such as a hoodie. The jacket is very well constructed using quality materials and is comfortable to wear. I am 5'-8", 170 lbs, and the medium fits me perfectly. When I stand straight with my arms at my side, the bottom left and right edges reach the web of my thumb, and the extended tail fully covers my rear end. It has a zippered outer left breast pocket and a zippered inner right breast pocket. Both are convenient to access and are quite deep. There is a pocket in the bicep area of the left sleeve, but due to the angel of the zipper I find it difficult to access when worn. It's a shallow pocket that won't hold much anyway. For example, my 5" Moto X smartphone will not fit in the sleeve pocket. It will hold my reading glasses, but it's too much effort to be practical. The hood is removable via zipper and can be stored in the collar. Your mileage may vary, but I am exceptionally pleased with this purchase.

Unlined, but it is of layered construction, with a rubber-like feeling on the inside, and sealed seams everywhere. I'm usually skeptical about things that say waterPROOF, but am thinking this will be effective. Because of this, it doesn't breathe like a GoreTex, so the pit-zips are valuable. The front flap is rubberized also, so if it does leak anywhere, it's likely to be along one of the other zippers, and then only in wind-driven rain. I'm very pleased with the construction and quality, and this is a great deal at the clearance price.
