Not bad. Very stiff, if Yolo lace them up tight it tends to make the boot buckle at the bottom of the laces where it meets the toe. The pockets on the side seem cool but I wouldn't put anything big, bulky or heavy.
    ProsGood price
    ConsStiff near the toes

    They work. Beware of sizing.
I did a bit of research before buying these boots to determine how they size compared to other brands, as these were my first boots buying online instead of in store somewhere. They fit rather tightly, especially around the ankle, even after a generous break in time. The offending area is part of the tongue that connects to the side of the boot to keep the unit waterproof. It creates a sharp point that pushes on the ankle bone. Because of this I have to fold down the top of my sock do give me some more padding. I am not happy with my purchase but they will last until I need to get new boots. Other than that they shine decently well with shoe polish. And they have nice grip on slick surfaces.

    Horrible boots
The only thing good about these boots was the "sale" price. It went all downhill from there. They're very stiff, heavy and bulky. Another pound or two and they'd qualify as deep sea diver weighted boots. And the boot laces don't render through the eyelets very well either.

Bulky and horrible on you ankle!
These boots feels like a bulky rain boots. I've had these for a few months and they are still very stiff. It hurts my right ankle and they are very squeaky. Price is good but it's not worth the pain it'll put you through. Don't be cheap and stick with whatever worked for you in the past. As for me I'm going back to 5.11 after I give you a honest feedback on the Underarmour Stellar side zip boots that I just ordered.
ProsWell padded/insulated, waterproof. Very good grip specially on dirt terrains.
ConsHurts your ankle, very bulky and very noisy, specially when your doing a building search. Them boots will give you away.

    Definitely worth the price
With a coupon I got these boots on sale shipped for $40. I was skeptical they were going to hold up but for the price I wasn't too concerned. A month in I have not noticed anything bad about the boot. I have had 5.11 and Bates in the past but these are just as good in my opinion.

    worth it if on sale
I have had these boots for two weeks now. As a duty boot they have good tread, the leather is stout, and they are waterproof as I found seaching a muddy marshland and subsequently cleaned with a pressure washer while on duty and didn't get wet. The only downside is the fold where the tongue is not very comfortable if laced tight. Great boot if under $100 if over $200 get Danners.
ProsDurable, stout, waterproof, look great, easy break in.
ConsThe fold for the joint on the tongue digs into the side of your shins.

    Very good boot!
I wear these 12 hours a day on patrol. They're comfortable, they look good and they've held up really well so far! With the price, I bought two more pairs and put them on a shelf for after this pair wears out. I really wasn't expecting anything for $40..... figured they'd be something like you'd get at Big 5 for the money
ProsComfortable, light weight, shine well, seem durable so far
ConsIf I had to pick on something, I'd say it took them a few days to break in. They pinched a little bit for a week or so although it went away completely

    Great value for the price
I typically wear 5.11 boots but had to try these after reading all the good reviews. The fit is a little big on my narrow female foot, but with thick socks and some more breaking in I think they'll be better. The boots are kind of heavy. The material is very stiff at first but I think it will become more pliable after some more breaking in. For the money, these are excellent. I will definitely purchase again if they break in the way I hope they will.

Are these waterproof or not? Can we get a definitive answer? One of the first questions listed (answered by customer service) says they are indeed waterproof yet as I scroll down I see people saying they are not waterproof. I already ordered these thinking they're waterproof.
    2 Answers
We pulled one from the warehouse to take a look and the language is a bit tricky which may be part of the confusion. From what I can find they are made with Sympatex material which is waterproof however the design of the boot can still let water in. So the material is waterproof but the design is water-resistant.

I see what you mean. The tongue gusset only goes up to about the 5th or 6th lace eyelet. So basically they're waterproof up to the ankle.

There is no side zipper on these boots, however, I find there boots so very comfortable that the little extra time to put them on is more than worth it. And on a side note these boots shine up real nice, I am no longer gonna buy tactical research boots for duty use anymore.

Yes, these are men's sizes. Nominally, men's sizes are 2 sizes off from women's, so a woman's 9 is a man's size 7. Women's shoes run narrow: women's shoes are normally B width, men's are normally D. These boots run ~ 1/2 size small, IME, and they're a bit on the narrow side [at least, the men's pair in W I ordered were only an E at best, instead of a 2E as they should have been.] But unless you have wide feet for a woman, you're going to need extra thick socks to keep these from rubbing at the heel, where the difference in the width of the lasts the shoes are built on is most noticeable. Extra room in the toe box is NBD, but too much room at the heel = blisters! PS - Yeah, I used to sell shoes alongside Al Bundy... ;-)

What is the "Speed Lace Toggle" that is mentioned in the description, and how does it compare to a side-zip for ease of putting on/taking off?
    2 Answers
These go on and off like regular boots. They won't be as quick as a side zip, but I prefer the tight fit of tying them each time. I've worn my first pair for two Wisconsin winters on patrol and am impressed. I just ordered 3 more pairs at the closeout price and won't regret it. $50 for quality duty boots? Can't beat that.
    on January 20, 2017
    from Appleton, WI
The ceramic coated eyelets allow the laces to slide open and closed more quickly than many boots with the holes punched in the uppers. Most speed laces are done via open hooks that allow for taking both laces in one hand and going side to side in order to complete the lacing of the shoe. These will not be faster than a side zip. Hope this helps D
