Awesome all weather Jacket!
I have the original Saber Jacket and I simply love it! The hood overlip and waterproofing make it a great all purpose Jacket. I have owned my Saber for 5 years now and it still provides a good degree of waterproofing. I wear it all winter long instead of my bulky ski jacket that cost way more. It allows easy access for my conceal carry and plenty of pockets for all my needs. It has worn well with lots of life in it. I would love to upgrade to the 2.0 for the fixed velcro cuffs, but can't justify just tossing my original Saber aside. This is a highly recommended jacket for men and women.
ProsAll weather, all season Jacket. Light, with room for a sweater underneath. Easy access for carry.

Better than expected
The waterproofing is better than any goretex jacket/parka I own. All zippers are fully waterproof. The quick draw side zip toggles make accessing your sidearm and spare mags simple and fast. As far as a temperature rating, I plan on using it for weather between 30 and 80F (higher temps only if it's raining). I'd really give is 4.5 stars but that's not an option. I say 4.5 because it's not made in the USA. If it were I'd say 5 stars.
ProsWaterproof better tan Gore-Tex, Large pockets, hand warmer pockets have soft lining
ConsNot made in USA

Good Jacket, Not Waterproof
I bought the Sabre 2.0 and will admit that it's a nice looking jacket. It's comfortable in moderate weather, and keeps you warm when it's cool and breezy out. The problem with the Sabre 2.0 is that it will only keep you dry for about an hour in a down poor. Recently, I was walking in a rain storm, and noticed that my arms felt damp when I got home. When I threw it on again later that night, I was cold due to the dampness around both arm areas. I had problems with the contents inside of the arms pockets getting damp too. Lastly, water marks were left in areas all around the jacket that got wet and dried. Kinda took away from the nice look. If you're looking for a waterproof jacket, this isn't your best choice. Go for GoreTex, and play it safe.
ProsQuality make, good looking, comfortable
ConsNot waterproof, Not US made

Bought the jacket for someone that doesnt like to wear bulky outerwear and she loves it. I have the original and I am thinking about ordering the new one for myself as well.

Left arm pocket not waterproof
I used the sabre 2.0 once when it rained. I had a writing pad in my left arm pocket. And after it rained. I checked the pad and it was wet. The rest of the coat was ok. My left arm was wet. Pretty sure that was from the same pocket

I have been sporting the 5.11 Sabre 2.0 Jacket for nearly one month now and I am very satisfied with it. I bought the jacket as an impulse buy because I found it on sale. At the time I was looking for a Concealed Carry jacket that would be compatible with a shoulder holster set up. Currently, I wear a Galco Miami Classic II shoulder holster. In combination with the Sabre 2.0's pull cord open system for quick internal access, it has become a fine and convenient combination for my should holster carrying needs, giving me access where I need it when I need it. The jacket not only works great, but it even looks great. As far as weather is concerned the Sabre 2.0 is a medium weather ranged jacket. It is not too heavy, but at the same time it is not too light.
ProsWell constructed Gives quick access for concealed carry personnel Compatible for over the should carry all the way down to inside the waist band
ConsAs with most 5.11 Tactical gear, because of the durability needed for what this jacket was designed for, some users may find the pocket zippers to be stiff and rugged.

This is one of the best jackets I've ever owned. Repels water fantastically, warm but not too hot allowing for layering, the break-away side zippers for your CCW is awesome. This is absolutely a must have if you live in cold and wet environments like the PNW!

I acquired this jacket last year after seeing it at a local PD range day. I bought it to use at our range during quals. We had the obligatory rain and the jacket worked at first. As the rain became heavier I started to get not just a little wet but absolutely soaked. If you are expecting to be exposed for an extended period of time it may require some further waterproofing. Not worth the money considering.

I've owned the original sabre jacket for years. It's warm and kept me dry in wet weather. My only problem with it was the velcro wrist adjustments, they never seemed to work. I just got my Sabre 2.0 and love the improvements. The quick side access is awesome and worth buying this jacket for this feature alone. They also fixed the wrist velcro problem. Don't know why I waited so long to get the jacket.

Im trying to decide on this jacket. Is this jacket warmer then the 5.11 Tactical Chameleon Softshell Jacket 48099? Or is it just double the price because of the added features?
I would not call this a "warm" jacket. It's more of an outer shell. It does have lots of zippers and added stuff. I use it with a soft shell for cold weather.

This jacket works well for the type of weather we have here in California. I have found it to be warm and functional. We have made this jacket our duty jacket with our Police Department.

Can you tell me if the front and rear id panels on the 5.11 Sabre 2.0 jacket come with the "Police" on them or must it be purchased separately?
They include the blank panels, but any embroidery would have to be taken in to an embroiderer to have it done.

I am 6ft 1 extremely thin what size should I get. Small or medium
Please view the size chart located under the option menu for your size. it is dependent on sleeve length and chest width. For instance the Medium will fit a 38-40 chest with a 33.75-34.25" sleeve length.

Is the quick zip feature on both sides of the jacket?
Yes it is. I will say it is a good jacket but it is not very warm. You will need a liner if your in cold climates

Yes it is on both sides. It also has a small quick release buckle on the bottom of the jacket by the zipper so you can fasten it under your holster and zip it down to the top of your gun so it's not just flapping around on the sides. Good quality, this is my department duty jacket, take the Velcro shoulder patches off, put em in the breast pocket, stow the flaps and you can use it off duty or as a blank cover jacket. Good quality although a little expensive for a shell type jacket IMO.

is there a trick to putting the poll cord back on the Quick access side seam? mine fel off.
Hi never had that happen. It sounds like a factory defect, I would send it back. 5.11 will replace it most likely. They have great customer service.

What types of Cold Weather does this perform in? I bought the MAGNUM coat on you had on clearance about six months ago, which appears to be styled in the exact same fashion. It is not worth wearing under 30 degrees. Is this a coat that can be worn down to 15 degrees without additional?
We have read all the reviews on 5.11's website and while they stated that this jacket is good in cold weaher, they did not state how cold and some said layering is a good idea.
on February 27, 2013
This jacket does not perform in cold weather. I would say this is a windbreaker for cool weather or a shell on top of an insulating layer in cold weather. I live in Los Angeles and it does not get cold compared to the rest of the country but I wouldn't wear it below 60 degrees here.

I am 6ft 2 in. should i get a tall or would a large reg fit ok?
5.11's size chart indicates the "Regular" size is for 5'8" to 6'.5" and the "Tall" size is for 6'1" to 6'3". http://www.lapolicegear.com/511sizechart.html However, we have an employee who is also 6'2" and he says Regular fits fine.
