Joining 5.11’s holster line is the new ThumbDrive™ Level II Holster engineered for speed and safety by Blade-Tech and field tested by Viking Tactics®. With an exclusive thumb-activated release that secures your weapon at all times, the reinforced ThumbDrive Holster provides an extra level of officer security by helping you retain constant firearm control in even the most volatile situations. 5.11’s innovative Chop-Block attachment, helps prevent others from accessing your firearm.

Similar to a custom holster in appearance, feel and fit, 5.11’s ThumbDrive Holster is built for years of dependable performance and features a special slick-surface polymer that won’t wear the finish of your gun like traditional leather holsters. I was skeptical at first but I should have known better 5.11 makes quality gear and this holster has surpassed my expectations. Very happy with this holster, fast and easy draw once you become familiar with it. Fast shipping as well! I definitely recommend this holster. I have the Glock 34
Rugged, dependable, secure, comfortable to wear and I love the carry options.

    Great Holster
    October 15, 2015
What sold me on this was Kyle Lam's demonstration of the holster. I like the Thumb Drive versus the Safariland Hood, and the cover on the front is a deterrent feature. I own four of these. One on my Battle Belt and the others fro everyday carry. You may want to investigate the "drop option" hanger is you are outside a lot.
Great Holster and fits Glock Models really well.
Only comes in Black. They need FDE and Forest Green.

Awesome holster with great retention and quick release!
    October 11, 2015
I ordered the 5.11 thumbdrive holster for my Sig P229R and it fits perfectly. The retention is great and there is almost no learning curve to master a super quick release. I attached the included paddle holster attachment and it fits my belts comfortably. It's only slightly uncomfortable on long drives when wearing in a vehicle, but it can be adjusted to fit comfortably. I also really like that it has a removable shroud to prevent take-away issues. My only minor gripe is that holster does stick out more than most other holsters, but for a duty holster this isn't a problem - even so, it can be concealed, but just requires a baggy shirt. All in all, I highly recommended this holster and wish I had gotten it sooner!
Secure, quick draw, easy to re-holster
    Difficult to conceal

    Great Tactical Holster
    July 1, 2015
This is a solid and well built holster. The draw motion is very easy to train with and use and has a lot of attachment options as the bolt pattern is the same as most of the blade - tech and blackhawk model holsters and mounting platforms. That said, I feel the holster not suitable for uniformed duty. The holster retention is good but not a true level 2. It's a solid open carry holster for plain clothes duty work or a tactical holster on a drop leg platform or tact vest, but the lack of adjustment on the passive retention system means you're relying only on the chop block for protection against someone trying to grab your firearm. Also the lack of protection of the rear sight means it's easy to knock your rear sight out of alignment or off altogether. Overall it's a great holster, just not a uniform duty holster.
Light weight, easy draw, and very well made
Lack of a true passive retention system and rear sight guard means it's not the best option for uniform police work.

    Lennie T is right.

I'm a former Rangemaster at Front Sight, NV. I know about presentation from the holster. The thumb drive lever sits just a little too low when your presentation is with thumbs high. I like the holster and I would make a similar modification to what Lennie T has suggested. This is a nice for a level 2 holster.

The best retention holster ever designed!
    February 12, 2015
I bought my thumb-drive holster several years ago, from LAPG. This is my first review on this holster because I felt that the product sold itself. This belief was shaken as I read some of the reviews below. First of all, for "me, not you" , you were given a holster made for a different gun, not the one you own. Mixups happen all the time. When you get something from LAPG that does not work, don"t try to "fix it" - SEND IT BACK! LA Police Gear will make it right. As for the guys with concealment problems, get a grip! Youhave the wrong holster as well. I wear my thumb-drive where it belongs -out in the open! In my case, it's mounted to a drop-leg platform, using the mounting adapter for molle mount made by blade-tech. The holster also fits my gun- WITHOUT any amatreur modification! If you need a concealable holster that hugs your body, 511/Blade-tech makes a number of holsters made for that purpose. If you need security in a concealment holster, turn to the Serpa line, made by Blade-Tech. Just remember: the Serpa requires that you use proper placement of your trigger finger. If you have the bad habit of placeing it on the trigger guard, rarther than the frame, well, Serpa will insist that you break that nasty, unsafe habit! HLN
Easy to re-holster, easy for you draw, while safe from a felon grabbing it in a scufle, with the "chop-block" attached. Best OUTSIDE holster ever devised.

    Good holster
    January 13, 2015
I love this holster and how it comes with multiple ways to attach to your pants or belt. It's also great that it can be run on a thigh rig of that's your cup of tea. I do wish that it didn't stick out so far and you could adjust the height at which it rides on your belt and length of the button that unlocks it. But that's just me nitpicking, it's still one of the best holsters I have. The locking mechanism is sturdy, and your gun fits nice and snug.
Very sturdy and fits pistol perfect,
No height adjustment or ability to adjust the unlocking button

This is an awesome retention holster. I use it on a drop leg platform for 3 gun competition. I never have the fear of it dropping out during the intense movement required in 3 gun competition.

    Great.......but had to be modified!
    March 23, 2014
I carry an M&P 9mm with thumb safeties. While the holster accommodated the safeties just fine, the thumb drive is located too far back to be activated while allowing for a "thumb over safety grip." The modification was to increase the length of the thumb drive by 3/4 inch and increase the height of the thumb drive 3/4 inch. Learning curve going from a level I retention holster to this modified thumb drive holster.....approximately four draws. Drilled with the modified holster yesterday, not a single misstep.

Great if you never have to draw!
    January 12, 2014
At first glance this was a great looking holster. It was also the only one I could find for my G34 that would be legal in competition. I inserted my gun into it and it was very snug. Too snug. There were no directions to locate retention screws if they were on the holster. Maybe there was supposed to be some in the bag but there wasn't in mine. I practiced drawing several times and noticed that the thumb drive was very difficult and unlike the thumb drive on my last duty holster. You really had to shove the gun down to get it to click and then it was a nightmare to get the gun out. The range officer literally had to have me remove my belt with the gun in the holster and they still couldn't get the gun out. It took nearly ten minutes before it finally released. I took it apart and removed the retention system and it worked better but was still simply too tight for fast drawing from the holster.
    Looks nice.

I have a Beretta 92 SB, it has the old round trigger guard, will this holster work.
    on February 5, 2013

No, a Beretta 92SB with a round trigger guard will not properly fit in this holster since the trigger guard is not the same shape as the mold.

    on February 6, 2013

We have not been able to find any information on this 5.11 Holster fitting a S&W SD40VE. We did however find a video where the SD40VE fit in a M&P 9/40 Blackhawk Serpa Holster. I have a S&W 410S .40S&W which I am told is the same frame size as the 411. Will this holster work and if not, do you have another similar model that will work?
    on March 3, 2013

This 5.11 Holster will not fit a S&W 410S. We do not know of any other holsters similar to this that will fit a S&W 410S. We have only seen leather and nylon holsters that are able to accommodate the 410S.

will this holster fit a Taurus PT92AFS? And will it swivel on the paddle to set up as a right hand cross draw?
    on July 15, 2013

A Taurus PT92 AFS will not fit in this 5.11 Thumbdrive Holster designed for the Beretta 92 since the Beretta holster is not designed to hold a firearm with an under barrel rail.
