overall murse, and day hiker, fun pack
    March 11, 2015
Very pleased with this pack, and it could used a couple of tweaks. Pros: Unique. Access everything on the sides, reverse clamshell opens wide. Large concealed compartment, pull-tab pack-opening trick is nice/fun. Has lots of velco-molle on the inside back, extra stitching at strap attachment points, bottom pack strap/cinch, and front grab handle. Not too big or small. The hanging inside felt-lined pocket is larger (sunglasses pouch), it is 7" deep, compared to 5" in the R24 and R72. Nice Ash-color, grey buckles, blue accent stitching. Cons: The sling caused slight trapezius muscle pain near my neck during a day-hike, but it's okay for daily murse activities, so I'm using both straps for day-hiking and sling for mursing without a problem. Also I would prefer zippers instead of velcro enclosures on the medium inside pouches. Other: I was able to easily route my bladder tube around the hanging inside pocket, and it exits the pack fine, so I have no issues with using the bladder option. Outside pouches hold a small water bottle and assorted other small items without a problem. I fling this pack around alot as a murse and nothing has fallen out. When hiking I add some weights and use the inside molle to secure them. Main compartment does have two sort of useless tiny inside pockets, so I put some extra batteries in one, and lighter in the other. Overall I like the minimal admin, but it could be designed a little bit better.

    Great day pack
    December 31, 2013
Great pack for day hike's. I use to use a maxpedition gear slinger, but after a dayhike my shoulder was a little sore, now it has been relagated to my bug out bag. The triab 18 is now my favorite hiking pack. The pack does everything the maxpedition does. I still love maxpedition products.
    Pros:
Small, but large enough to get the essential things I need for a day hike and then some. I also like the easy and quick access pouch for my conceal carry.
    Cons:
    None.

    JUST OK
    December 15, 2013
I have a ton of backpacks but I was issued this one for my job. Love all things 5.11, but this is my least favorite. It does have multiple compartments inside--but I would have preferred 2 separate zipper compartments. Also, the main zipper to open it only goes one way. They should have designed a zipper on the top right and top left so you can open from either side. I am checking the box not recommending it based on the people that I work with that do the job that I do would probably say the same thing about this bag. As a day bag, or as a non military environment kind of go to bag then it works just fine. Just a little pricey for a day bag.
    Pros:
Lots of molle straps and velcro. Good quality--as expected from 5.11
    Cons:
A little pricey for what it is. Also the zipper set up.

    Nicely detailed bag
    November 29, 2013
Using this bag for wilderness first aid/rescue. layout of the bag is excellent, quality of materials is very good. Shoulder straps could be better engineered, more ergonomic but they aren't far from being very good. the clam shell design is great for laying everything out where you can see it. No more fumbling for the stuff at the bottom of the bag.

    Awesome triangle

A great product that does indeed seem rather enigmatic at first glance. I really like it for my use as a semi-tactical daypack/bag. It is perfect for operators like me who don't end up wearing their daypack as much as moving it from room to room and vehicle to vehicle. The unique combination of a truly ambidexterous sling bag that is also a full-fledged quality backpack is wonderful. In case it seems confusing, the use for the vertical PALS webbing inside is mounting pouches, etc to be accessed when used as a sling bag, without taking the pack off. I just reach down and across my torso with my non-dominant hand, grab the corner of the pack, and pull it around to the front and up below the non-dominant shoulder. (this is essentially the same technique promoted by Maxpedition for some of their Gearslinger series, I reckon). This movement is much simpler to do that to write about, and it puts the pack sideways across the torso, while still securely slung across my shoulder. If I've set up the gear on the PALS inside the pack correctly, I can then unzip the side of the pack and easily access whatever gear I have set up on the PALS loops. This is a very complicated explanation, but I've read other reviews that clearly did not understand the reason for the vertical PALS. SoliDeoGloria.

    Almost Perfect
    May 21, 2013
Have this bag in Sandstone. Have used it for several months now and can find only one issue to address. As with most packs, the hydration bladder tube must be run through the main compartment. I have never experienced an problem with this until now. With this pack the hydration tube must be run around the sunglasses pouch located at the top of the bag. Your option is to use the sunglasses pouch and have the tube run around it decreasing interior space; or roll the pouch up tight and run the hose according. Despite this minor design flaw I still rate this a 5/5. It is compact, yet has plenty of room for my everyday needs.

    Interesting design
    May 15, 2013
Pack is well made as far as the one I received. The design has lots of Molle compatible straps for attachment of Molle pouches, knife sheaths, holsters and such. The only drawback I have seen is the main compartment opens from the bottom, so if you were carrying it as an active shooter response bag you can't carry anything loose inside the bag lest it will fall out into the floor. The bag also has velcro inside a flap on the exterior for a attachable velcro backed holster.

    Strap Broken
    April 16, 2013
I was dissapointed in the pack. The chest strap stitching was broken out of the box. The one strap idea is sound but the packs layout was not the greatist and was not as secure as I would like it with a load. 5 of 5 stars for LA Police Gear for their return policy.

    Triab 18
    April 6, 2013
Bought the triab 18 for my son and he loves it! I would give 5.1.1. And L.A. Police gear 5 stars out of 5 stars for the ruggedness of the bag and for the prompt service. Thanks

Has this been redesinged since the photo's? I just received this item and the chest has just the female end and a long strap from the opposite side and the illustration does not really show how to utilize the strap for use as a backpack?
    on May 30, 2013

    Answer:
The design of this bag has not changed. There are still two shoulder straps. Please view the video on the product page and you will see where the second strap is hidden.
